    Hey guys!

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a dog training course somewhere in Cork?
I have heard of Creedons College but its 1.6k and for that price Id need to know that the course is worth the money. Has anyone gone to creedons college or done the course? I would love to hear your opinion on it as id love to do it, Im just worried it wouldnt be worth the money as from what ive read the lessons are mostly online?

    Thanks!

Depends on what you want to do. Do you want a career as a dog trainer? Do you want to be a better teacher for your own dogs?

Elista Education isn't too far from Cork, its Abbeyleix. Alison used to lecture at St Johns on the animal courses, not sure if she still does, she may well do. She offers a variety of courses, and ways of doing them, I have done two diplomas with her, both distance learning, with hands on weekends, both of them had someone from Cork on them, who went home for the night on the weekends we did. She also does courses that you go once a week to I believe, check out the website and see what you think, I would definitely recommend her and her courses.

Both really. I want to improve as a dog owner and help others out as well. Hence my worry about the course not meeting the dog trainer standards, i do want it as a profession.

Thank you very much for the detailed response. I will definitely check it out! May I ask which courses you did? Im looking to make dog training my profession, do the courses there provide that or do you have to proceed elsewhere?
    Thanks!

Yes, she does courses for exactly that. I did the Canine Behaviour and training and then the Canine Training and Instructing.

Its always good to learn from different sources, so I do attend seminars and training days put on by other providers when I can.

    Hi Muddypaws,

I am also thinking about studying with Elista, the two same courses as you completed. What is the story with the accreditation, is it now FETAC or just UK accredited?

    What exactly does that mean?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi muddypaws,

I have a question (or 2!) relating to the Elista training.

I'm wondering if you did the semi intensive, Saturday course or home study course when you completed the canine behaviour & training course?

I may be starting a completely unrelated, full time course soon, which I really have to do for my current employment but I suppose I'm wondering if I did the home study Elista course simultaneously would it be doable? Is it very time consuming/huge amount of course material to get through/ short deadlines?

I don't think it's Fetac. Honestly? Most dog owners don't look into what different qualifications mean, which is a shame, I have an English friend who did a short online course, no practical component at all and she is now calling herself a behaviourist. Really, I think it's for your own benefit to look at what different providers offer, their own experience and knowledge and choose the right courses for you, and budget has to play a part in that.

I did the home study with 2 or 3 practical sessions (can't remember now). I didn't find it too onerous at all, deadlines are very reasonable and as with most things I guess, you get out what you put in. 90% of my research was online as my local library wouldn't cater for this at all, and I bought or already had relevant books.

Another API poster recently finished an Elista course, maybe she could share her experiences ;)

I am considering another Elista course, if that's any indication

    Thanks muddypaws.

I've heard the Elista courses are excellent alright so I'm not surprised you're thinking of another. I would certainly be hoping to follow on from the foundation course with further training.

I've wanted to do it for sometime but haven't had the time to dedicate to it. Seems a bit mad to study two separate unrelated courses at once but I think it may actually be my best opportunity to get it done. If deadlines etc are reasonable then I think it might be worth trying. I'll mull it over a little more.

    Thanks very much for answering.
