    Is FB killing internet forums?
Or do they (example Boards) still have a place?
There has been lots of forums over the years for things from sports, motoring, pastimes, etc etc.
As far as I see FB is slowly killing off most of these forums.
What do ye think..can forums still have a place, especially in a niche market?

**I dont think boards.ie has been affected much by FB...

I think facebook is actually killing itself. More younger people switching to apps like snapchat, Instagram, QQ, Ye, etc. Just a lot of variety out there.

Yeah, I sort of agree with you. FB groups have surpassed boards meetups etc,

No! Forums you can be anonymous. Can about so many different topics! And most important it's moderated! Facebook isn't so can be full of poo and god knows what else! Forums (any I've been on anyhow) keep all that away!

Boards used to have more people using it, previously,

Now, in addition to FB, there is Reddit and there are other sites and Whatsapp groups.

Reddit is more populist in terms of content. The most popular posts get upvoted, with others downvoted. It's less supportive of linear discussion and chronological sequence. Reddit is different.

Boards provides moderated, linear discussion but other social media have taken a big share of the market. Boards has a lesser share of that market now but there is still a call for what boards offers.

Boards has been definitely affected by other social media but it still has a lot to offer.

    Forums like boards are dying.

Freedom of speech is fine as long as you agree with the site.

Banned from politics here yet get a better debate on Facebook with real people not hiding behind fake names.

Forums are just an echo room now for back slappers and left wing nutters.

Other forums I am a member of have been bought by trade publications as they only deal with trade issues.

Facebook "debates" are simply groups of like minded people. Of course not every profile is genuine either...

Like everything even Facebook is starting to see it's decline but it's very slow.

I read an article by some professor in the US and he said once the under 18s said they don't use Facebook because "it's not cool anymore" mostly due to the fact their parents, aunts, uncles and even grandparents at this stage can see everything they post

The major move is back over one to one communication like WhatsApp, Snapchat, etc

However it has the added benefit of making WhatsApp groups

Even Instagram seems to have stolen the pic sharing aspect which was the real last thing Facebook had to keep loads of users. I noticed over the last couple years no one really posts they just share funny articles or vids and posted photos but now all the photos are Instagram

However Facebook have bought Instagram and WhatsApp so I'm curious what will happen there. Will they simply try and close each one and merge them into Facebook and Messenger, I have been thinking they'll def try and force WhatsApp to roll into Facebook eventually

But then again it's easy for s techie start up a replacement app

I agree. Facebook is all ads now. Snapchat users are starting to decrease too

I can see it killing itself off to be honest. Naturally, it'll be replaced (like myspace to bebo to facebook etc.) but i think Facebook itself has had it's day. Everything on the site has turned to money generation. I made a page recent for a community group and facebook deliberately makes it difficult for me to make new posts etc. without paying for them to be highlighted.

Constant reminders that i havent posted and i should boost my page for only €15 or so. It's getting tiresome.
