Apologies if this is not a done thing around here, just looking for a bit of friendly advice if it available :)

Starting to get down to serious plans for my wedding anniversary which will be November this year, have had a lot on the last few months so not looked at much yet really, would love to go back to Stoos where we had our honeymoon in Switzerland but wondering, and hoping someone might have some other recommendations for a place to visit in early November for a couple? Have thought about Iceland also, looking for something a little different I guess and at a loss right now!

Budapest gets a vote from me. Lovely city, quite inexpensive, lots to do. Food is amazing. If going in late November then the Christmas markets could be on

If you are looking for somewhere romantic, Bruges in Belgium is very picturesque with lots of delicious Belgain beer, waffles and chocolate shops. It's very easy to get to, usually there are inexpensive flights to Brussels then it's an hour and half on the train as far as I remember. I've been in October and in May and both times it was lovely; mild weather in the October though November might be a bit more wintery.

Bruge is one that appeals obviously due to its beauty alright, good shout! Have looked at Dubrovnik also, Canada is a bit too far, same reason New York is out, we will only have a Mon-Fri kind of break and would prefer more time in a place I have to travel farther for, and especially somewhere with so much so see!

Thanks for the recommendations so far, looking in to a couple of them and if there is any more or advice re hotels/transport etc that is all welcome also

Consider visiting Southern Germany. I've holidayed around Germany for a number of years and now and we love it! It's generally very reasonable for hotels/food and the public transport is cheap (much cheaper than Switzerland). I'm not sure if you are looking for a city break or touring around the countryside but there are plenty of options to suit you whichever. Some of the tourist towns are fairly dead in the winter I've heard (we've only been there in the summer), except for many towns around Christmas time. Perhaps a city like Munich might be a good option at this time of the year.

Germany, apart from Berlin, seems to be overlooked by Irish people. It's actually a beautiful country though.

I can give you much more information if you are interested.

Ha! Of course, eh probably in and around 2k for flights/accommodation but not set in stone and in no hurry to max out my budget either :D

Found the public transport in Budapest to be among the best I've ever experienced. Efficiency I would say is on a par with Berlin & very cheap. You can get multi-day tickets easily at the airport and everything links up centrally.

Check out Danube cruises, thermal baths, funicular, ruin bars & markets amongst other things.

We found Zeller Bistro to be exceptional. Rudas Restaurant do a dinner and late night baths experience for under €50.

EDIT: Just saw your budget - At Budapest prices you could probably stay in the Intercontinental Hotel & dine in Onyx (Michelin star) restaurant

Barcelona. My favourite spot on the planet, well no, not really but it is up there.

Take the train to Sitges, and up the other side of BN towards Blanes (great train journey that hugs the coast), mix and match with beach and city. So much to do and see, and the whole ambience (if you leave out the heave of Ramblas) is hard to match.

But that's just my suggestion. For your budget you will get a very good hotel for that, and a lot more besides.

I posted on another thread about the hotel Jazz. It is great and so inexpensive, google it. Will leave you with LOADSA dough to spend, spend, spend!

Whatever your decision is, I hope you have a great time.

Salzburg would be an option. It has an Alpine feel, but still quite different. You can fly into Munich and get a Bayern Ticket out to Salzburg. So it will only be about 25 to get from Munich Airport to Salzburg on the train.

It is really nice. Although a bit touristy. I imagine that will all have died down in November though.

Plus one for Budapest. My favourite city break so far. Beautiful buildings and a really interesting history. Really enjoyed the castle district, thermal baths and the hospital in the rock. I preferred it to Bruges and Barcelona as suggested here but I appreciate everyone is different!

I paid €85 in Nov. 2015, for a studio room (which was enormous) at the Marriott Millenium Court Apartments.

Have also stayed at K+K Hotel Opera, Hotel President & Marmara Hotel - all good spots in good locations.

Art Hotel opposite the Paliament Building on the banks of the Danube is where we stayed. Views of the Danube, the city, plus the Parliament & Chain Bridge lit up at night are stunning.

It's on what some people would call the wrong side of the river but we found it ideal. It's right beside Castle Hill & Fisherman's Bastion and only a 10-15 minute walk over Chain Bridge to the main square and the Christmas Markets.

It's only a short walk to the metro station if you don't fancy the walk.
