Everyone outside the d4 bubble knows that country artists like Nathan Carter and Lisa McHugh are very popular with under 35s up and down the country so why aren't our only two national popular music stations playing those artists ? In fact it's a disgrace that 2fm, which has been propped up with 5 million per year of tax payers money since g Ryan's death doesn't reflect the musical taste of the youth outside d4

I think you massively overestimate the popularity of country music outside dublin or anywhere else. RTE television is also completely ott with their coverage of this music imo...so I think it's well covered. Nathan carter and Co have featured more than enough on the likes of the late late show.

The fact it's utterly sh!te is an aside.

I stopped listening to country music when John Denver died.

Many local stations already have dedicated daily/weekly shows for it.

Limerick Live 95 FM has a country music show with Larry McLoughlin every Sunday from 6-8pm.

I know of lots of young people down the country who go to country Music gigs and the late late country Music show is now the second most watched late late of the year after the toy show, and don't forget how popular Garrett Brooks was/is

R Na G play a fair bit of Irish country in the evenings.

Though surprised Radio 1 dont play more Irish country acts, you just have Ronan Collins and Shay Byrne playing the odd well established artist.
Perhaps they should revive "Keep it country" with Paschal Mooney!

Oh Jesus country music is widespread enough without everyone playing it, I really don't know many people who can even tolerate it, let alone enjoy it.

They don't play much metal either, but you don't hear me complaining. TodayFM is more about the chat rather the music. It's only ever going to play general pop.

Country is well catered for in local radio, Spotify, and other online stations (which is where the young uns mostly hang out anyway), so what's the problem.

It would take a lot to sully 2Fm any further. Terrible station already.

IE its paying lip service to the genre by having if at an off peak weekend time - it shows the lack of a market for the genre

2FM and stations like them are for the most part just pushers of modern disposable pop music. Local radio then play so-called 'country music' performed often by ex popstars trying for a second career. I feel the whole way music is done in Ireland needs to be changed and it is the same old stuff that is being promoted over and over. I don't think the DJs playing music have a deep knowledge of music and are just pushing stuff PR companies are paying them to push. Guys like Louis Walsh get way too much of a say and that's the problem.

I'd love to see PROPER country music played on stations here much more. There is an audience for it you can be sure but radio stations will only push either pop or modern pop country sung by ex boyband members at us and get the gullible to follow like sheep. The media will always have followers of the only 2 types of music they push but they neglect the rest of us who want something else. All that said and done, I have never relied on radio to hear proper country music or any form of good music. But what if 2FM revamped itself and started playing classics from the 1920s-1980s a lot more? I guarantee a lot of people would respond positively to music they are not aware of. Most people I know of are very tired of the type of music 2FM and other such stations push nonstop.

Sadly all the wrong stuff is constantly pushed at us by the media. I feel that 2FM has too much poor pop stuff on it and other media has too much so-called 'country music'. This stuff the media push is not country music and the singers of it would not be able to sing a proper country song like a Hank Williams song in a fit. Stuff like The Farmer Wants A Wife by Lee Matthews gets pushed while much better singers singing the real classics are 100% ignored. That is the shame of it. Tellingly, despite all the push, a lot of these so-called 'songs' like The Farmer Wants A Wife don't take off as hits and there is a clear reason for this. The majority of the people don't want this muck that the media want to shove down our throat.

This poor, modern form of country music is too widespread. Not my cup of tea ever but I could tolerate it if other music was given a chance too inclusive of other forms of country music.

2FM and stations like it are just brutal and are not places for music fans. Had the misfortune to hear it on public transport one time and it was literally one boyband after another.
