Cancelling Sky - Whats my best Freesat options to replicate their service?

    Hi there,

I'm tired of Skys constant sneaky letters with never ending dodgy price increases and am finally opting out......

    - Whats my best Freesat options to replicate their service? We're used to recording programs and it is handy to pause TV from time to time.

Can't afford to spend a mint but happy to fork out a reasonable amount seeing as I'll be free of Skys extortionate and ever increasing bill every 30 days.

    - We were a 2 decoder multiroom setup - No sports or movies at all.

    Appreciate any help.

My Panasonic has FTA and my Sony but they both operate differently. I can get Euronews on one but not the other. The following is a list of channels I get on FTA

    BBC1, 2, 4
    ITV 1HD, 2, 3, 4 and +1
    CH 4 HD,
    E4
    More 4
    CH 5HD
    Travel channel
    Sky news

Both have a DVB tuner for Saorview and the full suite of channels can be got.

For most people a combination of Free to air, saorview and netflix is more than sufficient.

A place such as satellite.ie or similar can advise the best setup based on what equipment you have and what type of service you want.

For simplicity and plug and play get a Human HDR-1100s (about €200-€250 on eBay/Amazon)

Full EPG, pause/rewind/record, smartphone app and all the BBCs and ITVs in HD. You just plug it in where the Sky box was and run through the setup wizard .. up and running in 5 minutes.

Got one about 2 months ago now when I cancelled Sky and wouldn't go back :) Only thing is you won't get RTE/TV3 (need a Saorview setup for that) but personally those channels are no loss to me anyway so I'm happy to do without.

Can a USB DVB-T dongle be added to that box to get the Terrestrial channels integrated?

I got a Ferguson 4k box that gives me freesat, saorview and best of all, Kodi; so basically everything for 180 euro.

What's a Ferguson 4k box? Do you have a link to its spec?

Do you mean FTA (instead of freesat)? Is this box easy to install? I wouldn't be the most technical person.
