hi ,my tm6800hd which was having a good old rest for a few months has lost its sound when i turned it on, ive tried different hdmi cables, blown out contacts of hdmi with contact cleaner, did a factory reset but still no sound, ive tried all settings on it and tv i usually only use it to drive the dish motor when looking for feeds as i never got the azbox working driving the motor, any1 have suggestions besides putting it in recycle bin and what would yea suggest as a good replacement maybe for both the azbox and tm6800 ,does any new box do 4:2:2 as limerick hurling match feed was in 4:2:2 last week

have you tried selecting PCM via the audio menu? and check mute is not enabled on box, as fas as I am aware boxes that do 4:2:2 are rare very rare and azbox is the best. There are a lot of good enigma 2 boxes now all down to budget.

The audio problem. It could be that a blank audio carrier is defaulting to be the main one. Press the audio button and if there are other audio streams select them and see if they work.

Failing that update the firmware (as this normally the problem)

Choose an image. There are many unofficial firmwares for that box even though its an old box. The official firmware is on their website. Heres the unofficial stuff.

If you want to know how to flash the firmware, follow this guide.

4:2:2 boxes. They do no exist. There are straight off erriscson decoders that do this, but they are for broadcasters and fit in a 19inch rack and cost about 1-3k second hand.

The Azbox's are years old. They did 4:2:2 but only SD bit rate.

The TG4 (and some recent RTE as well) broadcast feeds are 10 bit HD 4:2:2, otherwise known as chroma. There is no commercial box that will decode these straight off.

You could use an E2 box but you would still have to stream it to a device that can break down that video. And thats a PC with a high end graphics card and a powerful cpu.

If you are doing this primarily for feeds, then I'd suggest you build your own mini PC - Add a TBS satellite card (TBS6905 for example) and get a decent graphics card that can handle 4:2:2 and HDMI that to your TV. Its on my project list.

So remember the 4:2:2 on its own is a misnomer. At least 10 bit 4:2:2 must be supported for this to work on the fly.

Here is a thread that you may find interesting in this regard re GAA feeds and 4:2:2 HD. There is also a 2017 one that gives you the feeds on the day in the Foreign satellite forum.

In general the TG4 feeds are exclusively 4:2:2. The RTE ones are split between 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 as RTE have clean and dirty feeds - with and without graphics. The 4:2:0 ones are decoded by any dvb-s2 box and are normally 16-20 MHZ away from the main 14250 broadcast but with a S/R of half that at 7120.

Bet your happy you asked that question :)
