Butterfly Wing Repair

    Hi all.

I know this is a bit of a weird one, but we found a butterfly in my friend's garden at the weekend and its wings are badly torn and very uneven. My friend took it in and gave it sugar water and it seems quite strong, but it can't fly with its wings in the state they're in.

I know some people can do wing repair and there are detailed instructions online, but it's not something I'd be confident to attempt myself. Are there any butterfly enthusiasts in the Dublin area who might know someone to help this little guy?

I'd say its got tattered wings because its done its reproductive bit and is on its way out - they have very short life spans. I'd find some nice flowers like a bundles and leave nature take its course - some bird may benefit from a tasty snack! Id say wing repair would be something that could be done by a specialist who maybe is trying to repair a damaged endangered species which hasn't reproduced yet, but for a garden bug id leave it alone!;)

I think the same myself, to be honest - circle of life and all that - but they're not going for it, so I thought the next best option would be to look for a way to get it flying again so it can leave.

Ah well, at least it's got plenty of food.
