There's more to this story that you're letting on, it'll be easier for people to give you advice if you give the full story.

How did you come to the attention of the Guards and how many letters did you ignore before you received the fine and disqualification letter?

Also, you should ask for this to me moved to a more appropriate forum. Motors maybe.

Well the guard more than likely asked you to produce your insurance within 10 days and you didnt, then you got a summons for court which you obviously ignored as you got a 1200 fine and disqualified. Would that be correct?

The Gardaí can't send you a €1200 fine and/or disqualify you for 2 years. Think you must have missed/forgotten the whole court bit.

Going to move into Motors where people may be better able to advise (without offering legal advice - just direct to who they should contact)

OP needs to fill in the blanks on the entire situation otherwise the dots just don't join up.

    Speak to a solicitor.

Seems rather late in the day to be addressing this.

More info needed. I presume you ignored letters and assuming you were prosecuted in court without your attendance ?

If it went to court... all you can do is buy a bus pass at this stage

The time for taking action has long since passed

My spidey senses tell me this maybe a wind up?

If you have been convicted in the District Court you have 14 days to lodge an appeal. You can apply to extend this time if you need to but you won't be granted an extension unless you have a decent reason. Well to be fair if you show up with a valid insurance policy certificate covering you for the driving in question you are likely to be given more leeway than normal.

The appeal is a full re-hearing with the case starting again from scratch. Don't miss it, bring your licence and insurance.

If you can afford it you should get a solicitor who will talk you through the process and handle it for you. You still need to show up in court.

This is definitely a wind up. Wording of the original post is just enough to raise a red flag

Subscribed as this may well be a beauty.

ok first off calm down and explain the situation a bit more. There are lots of helpful posters here who can give you information. For my part the same happened to me but with a little more detail.

I was rear ended and reported the crash. Garda asked me to show insurance in local cop shop. I was in college so I got the wife to present it at the station.

About a month later I got a summons in the post for no insurance along with a court date six months later. I went up several times to the station to try to contact the garda, left messages, explained to several different gardi what happened.

Fast forward to the court date and I was due up on the 7th and thought it was the 17th. (yes am an idiot)

Convicted in my absence, fined and banned for two years. Contacted a local solicitor, he advised me not to drive as I was disqualified, waited about six weeks for next time judge was in court. I show up, solicitor stands for 30 secs, explained he sorted it with DPP (or whoever) conviction removed, back on road with clean record and 500 euro lighter.

expensive way to remind me about a court date but a lesson to take time from college to deal with real life issues lol.

So if your really covered by insurance for the time period then you can get it sorted, in the meantime you ARE banned, you will NOT be covered by your insurance so do NOT drive. ( yes i know that annoying)

Dont worry about it. Just drive it on. Wear a balaclava while you drive so the gardai dont know its you
