AN POST SMS notification

    Hey folks,
Both myself and a friend of mine got an SMS from "AN POST" as the sender (no number, just the name) on Saturday that read:

"Dear Customer, your item is out for delivery today. If you will not be home, call 08XXXXXXXX to agree alternative delivery arrangements"

Both numbers were different in each of the texts.

It was a bit strange to get this on a Saturday as I didn't think they did deliveries on Saturdays and no packages arrived and no missed delivery notices were left in either of our letterboxes, however we both checked tracking for items we are expecting today and it shows they were out for delivery on the Saturday?

Mine says it's in the sorting office but my friends was actually delivered today.

Is this a genuine SMS from An Post? The whole thing is a little strange and the fact no missed deliver notices were left at either our address ads to it too.

Any feedback would be great :)

Cormie, I have gotten those texts before and they do appear to be genuine. There have been a few threads on this recently, did you order off amazon?

Yep, both my friend and I ordered from Amazon! We're each at different addresses and each got a different number to ring.

Different routes would have different post people and possibly different offices.

I got an email from An Post for a delivery last week, no option to change the delivery with the email.

Yeah thats legit then. The different numbers to ring may be due to the different routes/vans.

I got a parcel on Saturday. The texts are legit. An Post have started doing parcel delivery in some towns cities. Per out Postman the letter business is poor and they are many different parcel services that they have to be able to compete. Hence the introduction of Sat service.

If you get that text in the morning and don't get a notification in the letterbox that you missed your parcel, don't worry.
It gets 3 delivery attempts, morning, afternoon and next day.if you're not there on the third one,you go collect it.

Thanks for all the replies. I actually now got my delivery. I asked the postman if he tried deliver it on Saturday and he said it wasn't him and then started saying something about competition and overtime, I could barely hear him as there was building work going on and loud machinery so can't be sure exactly what he said :o

The text I got this morning had a different number to ring, which was quite similar to the number my friend had to ring, but different by a few digits.

An Post currently have 25% of the parcel delivery market. They are aiming for 40% and the upcoming service inmprovements will get them close to that.

SMS notification, option to leave at neighbour, option to drop into local shop, automatic redelivery later that day in many areas, Saturday delivery in many areas and if you are returning goods, they'll collect from your door.

Sms in many cases will come from the handheld system of the delivery person with your parcel.

I spoke to my postman about this last week. The number is linked to their signature machine. He said if you can't ring just send a text to the number and they still get it.

I've gotten these texts and once, a phonecall from the postman - all associated with amazon deliveries. He was outside the house and was wondering if I was around or would he deliver to a neighbour. I said it was fine to drop it over the back gate which he duly did. Very handy service.

Only An Post do this. If amazon deliveries are sent out via fastway/iparcel, forget it. I'm lucky if they show up at all. Got one last week (eventually) via iparcel and how the stuff was still intact and in the box is beyond me. It was burst open at one end and looked like it got a good kicking.

The messages are legit. An post have been doing this for a while now.

I've used the redirect service twice now.
first time no problem, second time package was "lost" and ended up back at amazon.
2 other people in work used it and both their packages were "lost".
one lad got a refund from amazon then his was delivered by on post, but they said it was returned to amazon.

Received a text from An Post last Wednesday (around 6pm), stating that my item was at An Post National Hub, with a link to arrange alternative delivery options. I chose to have it delivered to local An Post. Checked the link the next day which now provided tracking information.

The strange thing was this tracking info said that the item was delivered on Wednesday at 10am (as in before An Post text me). There's been no update since. There's no package in the post office.

Now for the really odd part, I've no idea what it is. Herself is always ordering stuff under my name and I've ordered a few things myself.

Contacted An Post online but haven't heard back. Might have to give them a call.

I received similar text from An Post National Hub on Tuesday and clicked the link. Pretty sure I changed the delivery date to Friday as one of the options. But it doesn't look like it's worked and they tried to deliver it yesterday and from the tracking data it looks like they will attempt it again today. Now I worry that they'll skip the "You can Colllect" option that they did before and just send it back to Amazon on me.

Has anyone else chosen an alternative delivery date and had it work? Or just picked it up if/when they got the note dropped in through the door?

I chose to redirect to a collection point, but An Post delivered to a neighbour while I was at home. I complained about it and received a response three weeks later blaming it on a "miscommunication".

The texts were going out for months when I met my postie on the rounds. When I asked about it, he said he didn't know how to check on any communication received back regarding delivery options......Not sure if he does now.
