My girlfriend who is a teacher moved to UK to take up a teaching job there, she stayed nearly two years but came back to Ireland to take up a position in a school here. As she is not permanent she isn't paid during summer. She moved in with me and when working was paying 200 euros a month towards bills/mortgage etc.

She went to sign on but she was denied because they are taking my income into consideration. I've already said during summer I'll help her out with covering expenses etc (i.e. waive the 200 euro) but I'm really not happy I seem to be required by the state to subsidize her while receiving no tax credits for essentially having a dependent during the summer.

She has appealed the decision and I have provided a letter stating that I am not financially assisting her. Anything else that I should do?

There is nothing she can do, as long as she is living with you, your earnings are taken as means.

Would she not enough PRSI contributions for JSB? She can request a statement of PRSI contributions here:

If you are in a cohabiting relationship they expect you to financially assist her, it's not something that will be changed if she appeals its just the rules and won't change unless she moves out now.

As said above perhaps she could get jsb instead

Her contributions from the UK may enable her to receive jobseekers benefit here. She should go back into the sw office and ask them to request her contributions from the UK.

    Hi OP

your girlfriend was applying for JSA or job seekers allowance & thats means tested. you are living together and your household income is assessed as such.

    "
In the means test for Jobseeker’s Allowance your household income is assessed. If you are married, in a civil partnership or cohabitating, the means of your spouse, civil partner or cohabitant are also taken into account.
    "

if your GF has paid tax in uk regularly, she can ask them to asses is she meets the criteria for JSB job seekers benefit, which is not means tested.
Contributions you have paid in other member states of the EU/EEA will be added to your Irish contributions. If you are applying for Jobseeker's Benefit and need the contributions paid in another EU/EEA country to help you qualify, then your last contribution must have been in Ireland.

in the uk she was working full time for a school for nearly 2 years.

She mentioned this at the initial interview and I think it was ignored. So in this instance she should be eligible for JSB which isn't means tested.

    Will try this avenue.

She should ask them in the social welfare office to transfer her contributions from the UK. They have forms there that they will send off to the UK authorities. Can take a fair while though to get the contributions transferred over.
