    Hi
Looking for a cheap backup laptop for word and the internet.

Would the x230 be regarded too long in the tooth. i5 with 8gb.

    Thanks
    Sean

All depends on the price and condition. Realistically the performance would be just fine for the basics. I run a laptop of a similar vintage and it's fine.

For general internet browsing and the odd word document- it'll cut through them like a hot knife through butter.

The big issue I'd have with this- is if you're using it on a daily basis- even just for browsing the internet- is a 12.5" screen going to drive you nuts?

The x230 is very popular- for what it is- an ultralight form factor laptop- where absolute portability is required. If you need something for everyday use- I'd seriously suggest going for something with a bigger screen.
