Tanzanian Entry Visa/getting it as you arrive

    Hi,

Heading off on honeymoon in a few weeks to Kenya and Tanzania. Applied for the Kenyan eVisa last night, which was fine. I called the Tanzanian Embassy in London and they said that, due to delays at the moment, the Visa could take between 15-20 working days to be processed. That'd be too long for us.

Has anyone recently gotten the Visa as they arrive? If so, did it take long/were the queues long? Were there any other issues? Do we just need our the fee, our passports, Yellow Fever documents and some passport photos? Obviously I asked the guy in the Embassy this, but just wanted to be sure it worked the way he described.

    Thanks

We did a similar trip last year, Kenya followed by Tanzania. We got the visa on arrival in Tanzania, it was no hassle at all and didn't take much time, no longer than it would often take to get through Passport Control in lots of places. We had to fill out a form when we arrived, you take it up to the desk, they go through it, check your passport and the yellow book for vaccinations, take a picture, print out the visa and stick it in. All in all it was less than ten minutes. We had flown from Nairobi on a small plane so there wasn't much of a queue.

It's been a few years, but the one thing i remember was that they only took cash so make sure you have local currency to pay it.

Might have changed but worth checking out

Visa on arrival. Not sure where you arriving to but if it's Dar Es Salaam airport it's best to have US dollars to pay for it (I'm not sure what/if they accept anything else as I've always had USD) - $50. You fill out the form and hand it in with your passport and money at one hatch on the right - they'll give you a receipt for the money. Then you go up a few feet and wait for them to come back with your passport. Someone will bring out a batch of 5 or 6 together and attempt to pronounce the names and hand it back to the relevant person so listen carefully! Can sometimes take up to an hour if it's an international flight and there's a lot of people getting visas, but as you're coming from Kenya it should be quicker - unless another flight has landed before you.
