    Hi All,

Currently in the final process of relocating a meter box, We are building up a external wall which will cover the original meter box location from outside access so box location is moving to this new external wall. Wall is built, Meter Box is rough fit with Hockey Stick for ESB and mains line is located and uncovered.

Need now to get a RECI electrician to sort the tailings to new location and certify have an open case with ESB for the relocation.

What i am asking is what exactly is involved with a tailings relocation specfically so i am not in the dark as to the Electrians needs in terms of access etc.

Does anyone have rough cost for such a job The Fuse Board is located approx 2 M from the new location and both new meter box and fuseboard are entirely accessible from an access so there is no suprises in terms of problems.

So went and found the answer elsewhere, So if anyone is looking for some information on the questions i asked above.

The existing tailings can be used if the length is similar in terms of new meter location. If not 16Sqmm T&E would be used to the new meter with emphasis on the neutral being correctly installed by RECI electrician.

You should have a good Earth in place, so make sure the existing earth can be found to ground (rod) if not may require a new earth to the Meter in place for sign off.

If cable is in anyway external it should be protected in Conduit or similar to insure that it doesnt get damaged, this not a requirement if its in a cavity (domestic) as its away from mechanical interference.

So a RECI can do this work and certify for ESB move at which point ESB come in and move the meter and the mains to the new location.

No matter what length you have to use a minimum 16sq cable.

If the cable is running in the cavity it still needs to be in a conduit so as to stop the cable insulation reacting with cavity insulation.
