Skype battery consumption

I use Skype video calling a lot. The battery on my Nexus 5 & Fire tablet both last well. My friend's Huawei drains battery so rapidly on Skype that the charger can't keep up & it's a 2.1 charger. Does anyone know which is best, wifi or network ? Any other tips to reduce battery usage on Skype ?

It's a new phone & the battery is good with everything else.
