Patrick Jane - introvert or extrovert?

For those of you who watched the Mentalist, this was the first thing to me that jumped out about him. To me, it really seems as if he can be whichever one he chooses! He can sit down and think deeply about something, considering it from a hundred different angels, and yet seconds later he can transform into an extrovert and entertain a crowd. It seems as if he gets to have the benefits of both mindsets!

I suppose it's possible that an introvert could fake being an extrovert, but I don't think you'd really get an extrovert faking the act of an introvert!

And I love the way great at playing dumb - if someone were to ask him a question on something that they knew he'd have a strong interest for, instead of opening up, he'd crack a joke. Because whatever he'd be hiding, they'd know nothing about, and it'd be done of their business anyway. That's trickier than you might think... to give a different answer, in spite of where you're mind has been led.

    Anyway, do share thoughts

I used to watch it. Big spoiler.... it was fiction. They twisted and turned the character as suited the story line. It doesn't warrant scrutiny or analysis.

So in other words, if you encountered him in real life, you'd be puzzled as hell?

With most people, they're either extrovert or introvert, or somewhere within the spectrum. What's interesting here, is that he seems to have the extremes of both. So don't be so quite to try and shun my question.

I'm just saying you won't meet him in real life. The writers manipulated the character as suited them. I wouldn't be puzzled by him as it's a moot point.

Maybe. IMHO the black and white definition is very much lacking and often down to an individuals self labelling as one or the other and acting accordingly(introverts are more likely to do this as they're more about the internal, themselves than the average). Self fulfilling type of "trait". I can be extremely extroverted and extremely introverted. Depends on my mood and the situation in play. And hardly unusual in that. Indeed of the extreme "extroverts" I've known every single one of them needed internal quiet time. It can go the other way too. Though there are a fair number of people in the public eye who can switch on the extrovert, but would be more "introverts" by nature. Performers in particular.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

The ability to perform in public is learned. Some people including extroverts just have a public speaking phobia.

American police can't solve any crime without help from some individual specialising in some unrelated field. Patrick Jane, Castle ,Dr Cal Lightman (Lie To Me) or the mammy of them all Jessica Fletcher :)

I've watched lie to me, and it's more like a bloody documentary. I think Lightman exaggerates the English accent too much. Jane however, dangles the carrot to the audience and has you hooked on his every word. By doing this, he makes you appreciate what you learn from him all the more. He knows how to have fun while solving his cases. He's more of a natural than Lightman.

Lightman's skill telling if you're lying, but Jane might have a better idea as to why!

Just saw Simon Baker on TV there (now) Devil wears Prada!

    I love Patrick Jane,
I think he Is the best character in all of these crime solving series,.
it is the comedy value, ability to cross the line but still have everyone think its the right thing to do, using trickery and tom foolery to solve the case.
his super power is just his wit ,charm and ability to see every detail.

I'm somewhere in between and I imagine that there are a whole load of people the exact same as I am. I can be quiet one minute and telling a big yarn to a group of strangers the next. I'll have lunch on my own or with work colleagues/friends. It just all depends on the circumstances.

It's definitely not a black and white case of extrovert/introvert.

Some people are just johnny average. Somewhere in between.

I didn't feel the need to state where I fit as an extrovert/introvert!

Well, that's the danger of posting a thread in After Hours. The drunks come in after the pub and start rambling on about themselves.

I always thought he was naturally an extrovert who had been changed by what had happened to his family.
