Hi I was wondering if someone would know the answer to this. If someone gets 12 points (not my case) and are off the road for 6 months, what happens then? Will they have to sit the exam again or will they automatically be back on the road after the 6 months?

No need to repeat the test as a result of a penalty point ban.

do they not even go to court after getting 12 penalty points?

No. The points system is basically a system of punishing messy repeat driving minor offenders and marking their card with future consequences without bothering the courts. If a driver commits anything egregious the court system is also waiting.

The 6 month ban is deemed the appropriate punishment for repeat minor offenders.
