Sitting here in the 757 from dublin airport. It took 18 mins from the 3 arena to the convention centre, a distance of 700 metres.

I realise its friday evening but is there anything that can be don't to relieve the pressure on this section of road?

Allowing a left turn over Samual Beckett bridge would help somewhat as everything is sent up to custom house bridge.

I don't understand why this is not allowed but it must be one of highest offended turns in the city.

Also a bridge over the mouth of the Dodder from east link would make a huge difference.

The ban on left turns onto the bridge is part of the planning conditions for the bridge.

It was made a requirement in response to residents in the Pearse St / Macken St areas who didn't want to be swamped by traffic.

There will be a bridge across the mouth of the Dodder, but it will be public transport only.

Considering the amount of traffic using the bridge already I don't think they would be swamped if the ban was taking away. Traffic flows along Macken st are reasonable giving the volume queuing to cross the coming off Guild st.

I'd also argue that large traffic volumes comes part and parcel of living in these areas.

What purposed routes will be using this bridge??

A new plan for car travel needs to planned for this area as its right bottle neck effecting everyone. Its only going to get worse over time when the likes of JP Morgan move down and any future growth from Facebook or Google.

I would assume it will be the main public transport access route to the proposed development at the Irish Glass Bottle Site.

    That's all that I've heard.

As for car travel - I suspect the hope is to get people out of their cars...somehow!

Was on the 747 to Heuston back in April. Took 1hr 25 mins at 1pm on a Thursday. I actually reckon it would be faster to get the Luas from Heuston to The Point and jump on the 747 there and vice versa.

Given that the city centre is a massive building site, yes that would be a better option.

Would indeed be I dont get why we cant have a bus station down the point that takes people to the airport or even move busarus down there. If they sold the current busaurs and put a decent bus station as busarus isnt fit for the loads it has these days

There are many buses that go from the Airport to the Point, 702, 703, 747 and 757 all go down there.

Im guessing the one way systems along the quays will force these buses back onto Pearse st. or north quays ect. is there any scope or is it possible to give say the north side of the quays to bidirectional private viechels travel and South to public transport and cyclists from east link to Heuston.

    700m in 18 mins - not bad!
On Friday, June 30th around 5pm I was on a bus that moved about 10 meters in roughly the same amount of time on Eden Quay.
Dublin is a kip - accept it.
PS. Its good to see that the City Council's 30 kmph speed limit along the quays has been a success!

Well, let's wait and see what happens when the changes take place at the end of August on the Quays and the new bus lanes on Ormond Quay, Bachelors Walk and Aston Quay & Wellington Quay come into effect.

I suspect that there's going to be a lot of changes after that happens!

The constant blocking by private cars of the yellow box on Burgh Quay at the Rosie Hackett Bridge, thereby preventing buses in the right hand lane on the bridge from proceeding is a real problem.

My record is to sit through six changes of lights before progressing.

Buses/coaches using Rosie Hackett Bridge and then turn right onto O'Connell Bridge before returning to Eden Quay also don't help - they need to get to the right hand lane on Burgh Quay and that's nigh on impossible to do in the evening without causing a blockage.

In fact Dublin Bus have re-routed the 27b inbound via Talbot St to avoid this.

I'd like to see Swords Express maybe use the bus lanes on George's Quay and Burgh Quay rather than their current route via Custom House Quay, Eden Quay and Rosie Hackett Bridge.

Took the 747 a few times myself, normally the 5pm one from Heuston. Laughably slow. One time we sat, as the lights went from red to green to red 3 times, waiting to turn onto O'Connell Street.

Far quicker to get the LUAS from Heuston to The Point and take first bus that turns up out of 702/703/747/757 but granted it will cost more.
