I am interested in a petrol Skoda Superb. I called into Donohoe motors in Enniscorthy this week and they tell me the car has a lead time of 12 weeks, and there aren't any available to test drive in the whole country. Am I looking for a white elephant?

Which engine size? Pilsen have a 2l in stock currently. 12 weeks is about what I waited. You will also find a few 1.4s for sale in Skoda garages to test-drive... Or test drive a 150 diesel

Is the 150 diesel a similar drive enough. It was the 1.4 I was thinking of. The Donohoes salesman told me the national database was returning no 1.4 anywhere in the country.

For what it's worth the Passat and Superb are very alike (they are the same under the skin) so it might be worth getting a spin in a 1.4 Passat to get some sort of idea how the Superb would manage that engine.

Here is a Passat estate so if you can get a spin in that it should give you some sort of baseline, if an estate can cope with the 1.4 then the Superb hatchback should be ok with it too.

I had my eye on that car for a while now. Within the space of 6-8 weeks the price tag has gone from 34k to 35k then dropped to it's current price a few weeks ago. Was toying with the idea of ditching my diesel Superb and going back to petrol.

Car was always up in Dundalk with no interior shots, then it was brought down to their Rathgar branch and they put up some shots of the inside.I now understand the price drop and why it hasn't sold. I'd say a lot of people walked away when they saw the brown interior.

Gone from the Dublin branch listings and back in Dundalk with the odd crafty picture of inside.

Take it for a spin but bring a sick bag just in case.:)

All the plastics look as if someones been smoking 20 Bensons in it for years with the windows up.

I could live with the brown, makes a nice change from black and I think it's a premium colour, e.g. L&K Octavia has the same

The Superb 1.4 is well priced so it's odd they seem to be a special order only and none are on the system, in fairness I never saw a second hand one either so although it looks like a good choice you might be left with it in a few years.

It isnt that they are special order... Just that there are no demo/pre reg cars for sale. Dealers will always pick the safest option for demo/pre reg and that will always be a diesel car here at the moment :/

This is exactly what the dealers said to me. Drove a petrol passat after. 1.4 150bhp. I thought it was a lovely smooth drive. Very roomy and comfortable and plenty powerful for my needs. This was most important for me to gauge on the size of the car. I'll drive a diesel superb now to get a feel for the comfort and the ride etc. Thanks for the advice folks.
