just a quick Q guys
After 3 months signing i finally got a job.
my question is when do i sign off, if i don't get my first pay for 3 weeks ? paid fortnightly first pay 25th jul?
do i collect dole until i get my first pay?

The first day your working, ring the dole office and tell them the day you start and you will be cut off from they day.

Actually, if you tell them you don't get paid until a certain date, they will keep paying you until then

Talk to them and explain your circumstances.

You can go into them any-day before you start and just tell them your work start date. They will pay you up until that date.

No they will not pay for your dole until your pay day as you would have worked, it is illegal to get paid dole for days you have worked.

When I got back into employment 3 years back (after going back to college) I had to wait 5 weeks to get paid (monthly pay and the first month was a 5 week month).

That may have been the case 3 years ago, but now they will make unemployment payments while you wait for your first paycheck to ease the transition into employment.

Its paid under the supplementary welfare allowance

If you have returned to work you can claim the basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance for up to 30 days while you are waiting for your wages.

Is that not paid by the community welfare Officer rather than the dole.

I did this when I came of the dole, told them when I started work and they stopped paying the dole on that date. I contacted the community officer and all they required was a letter from my employer stating when my first payday would be.
All very simple and a life saver, especially with associated costs of a new job, uniform, etc
