Hi folks, One for the Nissan folk....Looking for guidance on a Nissan note issue. It has a loud knock/twang sound when turn lock to lock which also throws out the steering geometry, am I looking at a rack? Cheers db

There is a design issue with steering rack that causes knocking noise when turning steering wheel but shouldn't affect geometry or driving.

My conclusion of researching this in Nissan forums was any cure is most likely temporary including changing the steering rack. No safety issue, learn to live with knocking noise.

It exists in my wife's car(06 Note) for 18 months since we owned it and it didn't get worse or better.

loud twangs can be commonly caused by either loose shock top bearing nuts or worn shock top bearings. Can you hear it coming from one side specifically? Have someone turn the wheel with the engine running while you check both sides by placing your hand on the springs through the front arches to see if you can feel the twang or kick in the spring. If so that is the problem.
