Returning to Ireland from London with U.K. Car, questions?!

I've searched for some answers but can't find a conclusive one.

So I've been in the UK working and paying tax etc, fully legimately, U.K. Bank acc for almost 3 years.

I'm returning to Ireland full time 6 months after the below date, so the end of August.

I purchased a 4 series BMW on the 28/02/17. Some questions below

1 - Because the car will be over 6 months registered in my name - my understanding is that I can register it in Ireland for free and pay no VRT??

2 - Does the car need to be driven back and have its own ticket to show when it arrived in the U.K. Or can it be transported over on the back of a truck? (Cheaper)

3 - Is it true then I need to keep the car in my name for a year in Ireland before I can sell it?

    Thanks for any help/advice

Have a look at transfer of residence on the revenue website for chapter and verse on this.

It's based on a genuine move over and extensive documentation needs to be provided.

The clock starts on the registration process when the car lands in Ireland. I'd say as long as you have proof it's irrespective of method, but I'd check.

Yes you cannot sell it for 12 months. It'll be noted on the registration doc.

    Nice car btw!

Thanks for the information, I should have all the paperwork but might call them to double check and keep ahead of the game as I hope to be back in Ireland in just over 6 weeks.

Does anyone know do I need to drive the car over or can it be transported?
    Thanks

Makes no difference. Keep the ferry ticket / invoice just in case.

Be interested to hear how you get on with this.
Revenues website states clearly what is required and they require quite a lot at that.

I'd make a checklist and start gathering the documentation now, as you have to show receipts for maintenance and road tax in the UK, including termination of your rent agreement, your new living arrangements etc etc etc, its quite extensive.

I was renting through an estate agent up until Feb bit moved in with GF family then, have been paying rent privately since so proving that may be a issue, also I'm moving in with family initially back in Ireland as well.

I have proof of tax, service info, log book etc
