Building a Garden Gate

We have a gate leading into the laneway behind our garden that measures roughly 120cm wide and 170cm tall (including battons).

I'm assuming I need pressure treated or hard wood for this? A couple of 2 x 3's to batton into the wall either side and then something like this between:

Anyone know where's best around North Dublin to get the materials for this or have any advice on what wood I should be looking at and prices I should expect to pay? Budget is the main concern but it needs to be solid enough to keep in a mid-sized dog.

I used tongue and grooved floorboards. For added stability I put two "X"s instead of the two "Z"s in the pic with the three cross pieces if you know what I mean. Then used a jigsaw to shape (arc) and put a bevel edge on the top. Painted it and its still good 12 years later.

Have done loads of these. Decking timber is good as its treated and had a finish on it but can be a bit bulky. I have also used 18mm fencing that is rounded at the top so instead of cutting 1 big curve at the to there is like a ridged top.

When doing the z bracing make sure the lower part of the z is on the hinge side and best if you do a small notch into the cross section as a joint.

Any idea of the best places to buy the wood in North Dublin? I'm assuming I'd be fleeced in B&Q

Look up your nearest builders providers. They're all cheaper than the diy stores like b&q, homebase etc

Whites Agri in Lusk do custom garden gates.
Also Timbertrove in Rathfarnham (other side of the city)
