My alarm bells were buzzing the minute she mentioned it but need some advice anyway.

Wife is a qualified teacher but was looking only for part time job in the summer (shes unemployed)

Language school offered her a position but on the basis of being self employed.

Correct me if im wrong here but is this even legal? Its no biggie if she turns down the job but should this be reported? I vaguely remember the government supppsedly doing more effort to combat this.

She would have to be careful to look after her own taxes as appropriate.

She would not be an employee but would be a self employed contractor.

Not illegal and probably not an unusual practice. She could take it and see how it goes but she should make sure that she never pays for anything out of her pocket because I have heard of people getting burned like that. The link below might be of interest as well.

It depends on if your wife grats it as shady or if she plays it straight with the tax man.

Lots of schools do this with drama teachers, sports coaches etc.
