Hi we have a week off in August and thinking of a few rounds of golf in the week.
We are looking at playing 4 rounds and booking either a hotel or self catering .
We would like to be close to a place with a few nice restaurants and pubs. We were thinking of somewhere in the Midlands.
I have seen that Mount Juliet have open days on Monday and Wednesday so we were thinking of basing ourself in Kilkenny.
I have seen offers for golf in Rathsallagh and Tulferris and also Kilkenny Golf club.
What would either of these be like? Any other recommendations we do not mind driving around 30 to 40 km to a course.
Any other ideas on places with 3 - 4 nice courses close to a nice place to stay.
We have done a lot of places in Kerry / Cork so not theses.
    Thanks again

Bunclody is a really nice course not far from Kilkenny, about 45 minutes drive and well worth the trip. Mount Wolseley is another lovely course and Coollattin all around the same distance away. A bit closer to Kilkenny I like Gowran, about 15 minutes drive away. Wouldn't be on the level of Bunclody or Mount Wolseley but good course all the same.

Bunclody is a nice course and the hotel right beside it does good deals. Well within the radius that includes Mount Juliet and Rathsallagh.
    Kilkenny GC is OK too.

This post overlapped with mine. Yes, Coolattin is another very nice one.

Been a while since I was down there so might not be as nice as it was, but I played Callan Golf Club about 5 years ago and thought it was decent enough. Not too far out and not too expensive either

Also definitely check out Castlecomer GC it's just 5 mins out of Kilkenny City and is a real hidden Gem one of my favourite courses.. and not expensive..I'd say green fees are €20-€30 staff are very friendly as well..

Rathsallagh, Tulferris and Bunclody are a bit of a spin if you are staying in Kilkenny but are lovely course's about an hour each way..

+1 for Castlecomer, the course is in immaculate condition at the moment, Open week from 28th July to 7th August, can play for €10 most days.
If it fits into your schedule, you can't go wrong

My brother in law plays it a bit as a guest of a member up there, doesnt rate it at all. I've been in the position of looking for a game up that neck of the woods at short notice( visiting OH family ;-) ) and often overlooked it because of his feedback. He must be wrong so.
If i were to pick 3 id go Gowran, Kilkenny and MJuliet.

It's well worth giving it a go and see for yourself, I think it's a very good course but there's some big hills which puts some people off. If you played Castlecomer, Gowran, Kilkenny and Mount Juliet I don't think you could go far wrong!

Did anyone mention Carlow... always considered a good course... in the old style... and not far away

If you are staying in Kilkenny cannot go wrong with any of these courses and as has been mentioned Carlow GC plenty of good golf that will not stretch the budget too much

You can't go to Kilkenny and not play Gowran. It's a super course. I also love Castlecomer but its a tough track.
