India and China border stand-off threatens peace

Just saw this on Sky News UK, the world is a mess right now and no leadership by the White house. Watch the video in the link. Chinese and India soldiers squaring off arguing who owns this land!

A border stand-off between two of the largest armies in the world is threatening peace in the Indian sub-continent.

In the last few weeks, soldiers from China and India have been seen scuffling with each other over a disputed territory.

The flashpoint is the contested border region of Doklam in Bhutan, which is claimed by China as part of its Donglang region.

But Bhutan has no diplomatic ties with China and is supported militarily and diplomatically by India.

The problem arose when the Chinese military tried to extend its border road at Doklam.

India is concerned about how much access the road would allow China's military at such a strategic point.

For India, this area is significant as it is the only territory where India has a tactical advantage.

India and China share a 2,174-mile border, with some parts still being contested.

India has to remove it's troops and don't see how that will happen? China said remove or we will use force.

Check this out it tough rhetoric both sides are using.

    Postulating and muscle flexing

What you have is two nations with a large army in man power, but not backed with the technology.

They are also two countries that have yet to engage in a large scale war under independence.

There will be some mention of WW2, but for the most part China was massacred.
It's one thing to equip yourself for war, it's another thing to engage in war. Ancient and recent history has thought us that the Generals, tacticians and morale are more important than numbers.

I don't think the White House should intervene. Both have appalling human rights records.

According to propaganda spewing out from Chinese media ,

And India has said they are prepared to Defend themselves

My neighbours are Indian and across from us live a family of Chinese.

In fact they seem to be on good terms.

Though the minute I see any Chinese troop carriers or infantry I'll record it for ya'll.

there was also a china-india border war that the indians lost.

Back in the 60s Indian forces were routed badly but India already came out and said times have changed and they are willing and able to Defend themselves,

But china won't want to fight multiple conflicts at the same time been they are gearing up for a fight to claim the south China sea

A bit of a non-story. That part of the border between India and China has been in dispute since the early 1960s.

Just two big nations flexing their bully boy muscles and puffing out their chests. Nothing new here...

Since independence? When did China become independent?

I think the Bangladesh Liberation War would be seen as major. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_India#Republic_of_India_.281950.E2.80.93present.29

I wonder will China use their "kind" funding in Sri Lanka as leverage to use SL as a base to attack India from. The fact that the Chinese own the biggest port in SL now is kinda worrying.

Was chatting about all this last night with an American who was advising me against setting up my base in Malaysia for the foreseeable future as he is convinced that there is big trouble in little China and the surrounding areas brewing.

    What are you talking about?

    Indo-Pakistan war (1965):
    700,000 Indians v 260,000 Pakistanis.
    Sino-Indian war (1962)
    10,000 Indians v 80,000 Chinese
    Kargil War
    30,000 Indians v 5000 Pakistanis
    Indo-Pakistan War (1971)
    500,000 Indians (and 175,000 Bengalis) v 365,000 Pakistanis.

    China was involved in:
    Korean war (1,350,000 men)
Vietnam war (170,000), they also invaded Vietnam with 200,000 men.

Sure they might not have the same capabilities as Western countries but to say they haven't gotten involved in large-scale conflicts is just wrong.

China and India tension has gotten hotter. There is report in the media of a battle where Indian soldiers died. China and India have denied it, but who knows? China has demanded India redraw, and is moving in Chinese troops, and holding live fires drills in preparation for a potential clash.

This has since yesterday got denied.

Just saw this on Sky News UK, the world is a mess right now and no leadership by the White house.

    Problem is Sky News.

India and Pakistan have gone to war multiple times over Kashmir. And still haven't nuked each other. This is like Korea. Low level stuff for years, more than sabre rattling but still well short of war. And China plays the long game.

Global times and China daily are running stories China will conduct a limited war in two weeks to remove Indian troops? Reportedly diplomatic talks have broken down.

Global times said they will notify the Indian government before the war starts.

China does not want this to escalate , but we have to wait and see how limited this war will be?

    Indian side.
On Friday, India’s defence minister Arun Jaitley told parliament that the country’s armed forces are “prepared to take on any eventuality” of the stand-off, Indian Express reported the same day.

India continues to pump in additional troops and weapon systems on the entire eastern front in face of continuing belligerence from China on the Doklam standoff, even as diplomatic and military channels are being utilised in a bid to defuse the almost two-month-old crisis.

    Reported by Chinese military sources.
Sources close to the Chinese military, meanwhile, said that the People’s Liberation Army is increasingly aware of the possibility of war, but will aim to limit any conflict to the level of skirmishes, such as those contested by India and Pakistan in Kashmir.

The PLA will not seek to fight a ground war with Indian troops early on. Instead it will deploy aircraft and strategic missiles to paralyse Indian mountain divisions stationed in the Himalayas on the border with China,” a military insider told the South China Morning Post on condition of anonymity, adding that he believes Indian troops will probably hold out for “no more than a week”.

Another military source said that officers and troops from the Western Theatre Command have already been told to prepare for war with India over the Doklam crisis.
“There is a voice within the army telling it to fight because it was Indian troops that intruded into Chinese territory in Donglang [Doklam],” the second source said. “Such a voice is supported by the public.”

I would think that the Indian army, by virtue of its years of Kashmir experience, will be much more comfortable with a localised, prolonged military engagement with China than the Chinese will.

Have the Chinese any recent experience of this type of engagement?
Tibet and the Spratlys wouldn't be in any way similar.
