05 Fiesta Timing Belt; Water Pump and Clutch job

So, here I am with a Fiesta, second car. (my other car is NOT a Porsche :( ).

My wife uses it for really short journeys, or the very occasional long journey - 4/5 times a year Dublin -Naas and back. At the moment my daughter is learning to drive in it.

It drives well- nippy, goes where you point it; stops well, lights all functioning.

Not light on juice; unsure as to whether or not timing belt was ever done; after a year of squeaking there's now a leak at the water pump. Also the clutch shrieks if you do a fast take off, and has recently started slipping at motorway speeds under load.

Perhaps replace it with a 2011 Yaris for about €11k (no real research done yet). But that depends on the cost of repairing the Fiesta. There's no sign of it falling apart any time soon, so a grand or so on repairs to extend the life of the car by a few years might be better than 11 grand (minus the whopping trade in deal I'd no doubt get) being spent now.

To properly evaluate my options, I need to figure out cost of repairs. When getting the water pump done, I would get the timing belt done for peace of mind. The clutch has to be done soon.

I've no intention of funding a main dealers chrome and glass showrooms, will be looking for a local mechanic/shop in Coolock - Artane - Santry area.

So does anyone have any idea of the likely cost of getting all this work done, would doing it all at once save money? Anyone know a decent mechanic/shop in the areas listed above, or even reasonably close??

All suggestions gladly accepted, and may even be acted upon.

    Nick

Got quoted 280 for full timing belt job on a mk5 golf and 320 (iirc) for clutch replacement from my local indie in south Dublin. Different cars obviously but would expect costs to be similar

Between six and seven hundred for t belt kit water pump and three piece clutch kit.

There is so much middle ground between fixing up your old Fiesta and spending €11000 on a car that rarely gets driven. I'd be questioning the economics of the second one more.

    Hi Martin, Bricky and Enumbers,

thanks for replying, those prices are remarkably similar, so I'll have a good idea of what kind of quotes to expect.

    Hi Colm,
The fiesta was left behind by my son when he emigrated, but its not kept for sentimental reasons:). Its a handy little run-around, and my wife doesn't like driving my car - she says its too big. Well, if the fiesta water pump fails completely before repair, she'll probably have to come to terms with the bigger car and parking it! So on my special scales... on one side we have the economics, on the other we have my wife's preferences. This special scales only tilts in one direction. Bit like the 'wardrobe space scales' .

    Hi Idbatterim,
if your mechanics are near me, perhaps you'd pm me their contact details. Also I like the moniker. I might change my own to reflect what I was saying above to Colm. How about Shedbatterme.

So, everyone, thanks for the replies, I'm going to get some quotes and will probably keep the fiesta.

    Cheers,
    Nick
