my 1979 Capri has an LW/ MW radio which works only there are no stations to tune too. I'm looking for a way to instal an FM radio, but the capri dash is non standard with rounded corners to the dash fascia , so a standard radio will not fit and I don't want to alter it as it is all original and in good condition

It occurs to me it might be possibe there is a stand alone modern system available, possibly wireless or with it's own speakers, that I could instal elsewhere in the car. (I have a bluetooth unit working off y phone but it's not very powerful in a noisy old car).

I've seen units that will transmit to your in car stereo but they are all FM too as far as I can see

    Any thoughts?

Is there room in the glove compartment, to fit a different head unit..?

Leave the original where it is, and have something better hidden away..!

    How about something like this?

You don't say what age your Capri is but I remember some of the 70's models having a shelf under the glove box area and under the steering? As the unit about has built in speakers all you need is the power and antenna to plug in and I sure it wouldn't be too hard to secure it to the shelf.

Becker do some cool modern radios with classic faces that look oem but have aux and fm and even bluetooth, worth a look

Could be tricky getting your hands on a Becker unit though, they stopped making aftermarket units a few years ago & they're sought after. A professional car radio installer (not Halfords) would be the best bet for something suitable, or supplying & fitting an underdash support cage/wiring a secondary unit covertly.

The problem is the Capri radio slot is not rectangular...the top corners are rounded and a standard unit will not fit.

that is an option , probably the oinly option, but space in a Capri is very limited.

I'm sceptical that it would fit a C|apri anyway, as it says it is for various models when afaik the Capri would have had a unique radio.

I think the Capri has a facia panel that the radio sits in behind?

it has but the radio is the old fashioned type held in by it's spindles and needs to have a central area about 3 inches or so across that protrudes through the dash between the spindles.

The unit that cee-jay-cee linked looks a possibility but it's only 5w per channel and the cost ($23 or so ) makes me wonder if it would be any good.

Company in UK can resto-Mod the unit internals
