Why are the main pharma companies /multinationals in the area?
Asking because I may be looking for work in the area soon.

I'm aware of erricsson, and Alkermes medtronic and a new one called Ariel? Who bought elan?
Is there one in Longford also? "
    Thanks.

Alkermes (this was formerly Elan), Alexion, Ericsson, Covidien, KCI Manufacturing, Utah Medical and DPD among many others are all large employers in the town.

The why? Well Athlone is a large (in Irish terms anyway) town with a 3rd level institution, young workforce, is a regional capital and has excellent transport links.

Not sure if it was an accidental thread title but Ericsson are not pharma...

    Multinational yes.
