Am I paying too much motor tax?

I know we're all paying too much motor tax, but I actually think mine may be wrong and hoping someone can advise me if it is wrong.

I have a mondeo and have been paying 673 per year.

I'm thinking of selling it so I check the current asking prices on different sites and all of the other Mondeo's (same as mine) are advertised at 390 tax per year.

Its a FORD MONDEO ZETEC TDCI 140BHP 5DR

If it's correct, then that's ok, just want to know!

    Thanks

The Mondeo had different emissions back then depending on your engine code, they were revised to reduce emission levels at a later date. Check the Co2 figure on your registration cert, then check it against the Co2 emissions bracket on the motortax website that it falls into. I'll bet that your car has higher Co2 emissions which is reflected in the motor tax bracket.

There is NO €673 on the Co2 system. Its the 1801-1900 cc tax level, which was completely phased out for new cars on July 1st 2008.

Thanks very much for all the info. I'll have to check the exact amount, but it's certainly more than the 390 everyone else seems to be paying!

    That's an interesting thread.
I wonder if op really overpaid tax due to wrong rate assigned to His vehicle, will Motortax office be happy to refund the difference overpaid over the years.

    From fords Co2 portal....
    Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (140ps) Edge 4dr 156 g/km
    Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (140ps) Edge 4dr 189 g/km
    Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (140ps) Edge 5dr 156 g/km
    Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (140ps) Edge 5dr 189 g/km
    Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (140ps) Ghia 4dr 156 g/km
    Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (140ps) Ghia 5dr 156 g/km
    Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (140ps) Titanium 4dr 156 g/km
    Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi (140ps) Zetec 5dr 156 g/km
    So,from 156 to 189 depending on model.
    156 would be €570
    189 would be €750
Does this sound correct for your car?

I'd love to provide helpful advise, but for anyone to give you good advice we need accurate details.

Check your tax disc and the exact amount you're paying should be on there.
As regards the car's emissions, check your log book for emissions and the exact model line of your Mondeo.

And no, I don't have anything better to be doing, thats why I'm on boards.

Just got the wife to check the details as I don't have it with me today.

Yep, it's 156 for 570 euro so looks like I'm paying the right amount

The 390 everyone else is paying must be for a slightly different spec Mondeo.

Thanks everyone. It's bad enough paying Motor tax, so wanted to be sure I wasn't overpaying!

    390 is for a 1.8 TDCI model.

    Mystery Solved!!

I never said there was a €673 figure, the OP mentioned that figure. A 2009 Mondeo would be on the Co2 system though.

    The new Mondeo 2 litre 150 bhp is a paltry 107 co2 (€190)

My Ford Galaxy emits 159 grams per kilometre, costing €570 a year.

If they were 155 I'd save myself €180 as a result.

    4 grams per kilometre over.

FORD Mondeo, 2008¼ Model Year Onwards 2.0 Duratorq TDCi (140PS) Saloon Manual gearbox, engine: 1997 ccm, Diesel: 156g of C02

    Per Co2
Tax Band Annual Half Year Quarter Year Arrears (Per Month)
    156 - 170 570 316 161 7.00

    The old way:
Tax Band Annual Half Year Quarter Year Arrears (Per Month)
    1801 - 1900 673 373 190 67.30

Looks like you pay per engine size even if you car is newer than 2008 - I didn't know it's possible.
