Buying running gear online - The dark side

Hi All,
No easy way to write this, but I tried to buy some runners online about 6weeks ago and got badly scammed through what looked a reputable website with a ".co.uk" domain. Tried to purchase them using my credit card ..... transaction declined, then my debit card ...... transaction didn't process through, but I got a invoice 20 minutes later in my inbox saying that my runners were being dispatched "WTF!" - I didn't authorise the final payment.

The email was sent from an intermediate billing company and not the company I purchased the runners from.  The invoice received was sub-standard to say the least and just added to my suspicions.  Cut a long story short, contacted my bank, cancelled my debit card, emailed both companies requesting a full refund etc.  Got the money back last week with the assistance of my bank and the very next day a substantial transaction was made on my credit card.  Coincidence?  I think not, I think this was some form of retribution for me pursuing them so hard to return the money.

I know what you are thinking, why didn't I originally cancel the credit card?... TBH, I thought when the payment wasn't processed originally that they didn't have my details and I use my credit card quiet a lot as I work outside Ireland .... so I gambled and I lost.

So at the moment I am back with my bank trying to deal with the money taken out of the canceled credit card.  To confirm both companies, the running website and the billing agent are both based in China and have very questionable reputations based on what I can find online.

I have no excuses, I got caught and its my fault.  I just want to make people aware of these sites, I would hate to see it happen to anyone else out there.

Thanks for the write up. I found a site the other day called milesmaniac.com with amazing prices. Website said it accepts PayPal until I go to pay and it is credit card only. I sent them an email asking about this and I have yet to receive a reply. I guess if it looks like it is too good to be true it almost certainly is.

You never mentioned the website if you're setting out to warn people.

Hi ThisRegard,

Yes, the intent of the thread was to warn people, and apologies I could have worded the last paragraph a little better ..... but more so about the consequences of handing over your card details, especially in circumstances like mine, where I "foolishly" thought my credit card details had not been recorded because the transaction failed to register.  I should have cancelled the card immediately even if I wasn't a 100% sure.

I don't post too often on boards, so I am not sure what the sites rules are with regard to naming and shaming?  Maybe the Mods could assist?  As I said, this wasn't the intent of the tread, but if you want I can PM you the name of the sites no problem?
