    Hi,

I was just wondering could anyone recommend dog groomers around the limerick city area?

It's the first time I'm taking my puppy to one and he hates bath time at the best of times, so I want to make sure it's somewhere nice that will give him a nice cut. He's a bichon/ Yorkshire terrie mix and has a long soft coat ..I dunno does that make a difference to who he should go to or not, very new to all this!ðŸ˜

Thanks in advance for any help given!😊

If you look on the ipdga website they have a list of groomers registered with them on their website, talk to people who you might know with dogs, or your vets. They always get the low down on who is good or not in the area! :)

Thanks very much for the reply! I'll have a look at that website straight away! Unfortunately none of my friends living in the area have dogs, but I'll ask the local vet nearby too! Thank you :)

Try ballyclough Dog Grooming. Not sure if it is Limerick City. I just got these recommended from a friend who is a Groomer.

You have to be really careful what Groomer you go to. Make sure to look at previous photos of dogs they have groomed so you can see the standard of their work.

You don't want a Clipper Happy Groomer who butchers your dogs lovely coat by shaving them bald for example double coated breeds. Grooming is an art & done well it can make your dog look beautiful especially if the Groomer is talented with a scissors.

You can help out any future Groomers by getting your dog used to being brushed & their feet/head examined.

    The Best of luck.

I'm biased because I know him personally but if you want someone who is gentle and considerate with your dog, I'd recommend Kevin from Top Dog in Ballysimon. He's an IPDGA member, too.

Ballyclough is near Mallow, Cork. About the shaving of dogs if the dog isn't brushed regularly it's coat will get matted and the groomer will have no other choice but shave the dog, unless you want to pay the groomer to spend hours brushing the dog. Another reason is people over washing their dogs it mats their coats and is bad for their skin.

I think Knine was talking more about clipper happy groomers who just save everything that comes in the door. There's one near me and I can't believe people pay her to do that to their dogs!?! People joke that she must be blindfolded doing it's that bad... like there's a shaved collie in the park atm with a poofy bit on top of it's tail :(

I agree if the dog is badly matted it's kinder to shave the dog but a good groomer will also educate the owner on how to care for the dog's coat so it doesn't happen again - they want the dog to look it's best not a conveyor belt of dogs coming in to be clipped one after the other.

I am talking about 'Groomers' shaving double coated fairly short coated breeds to the skin or clip wire coated breeds who could easily be stripped. Groomers who just butcher dogs with a clippers & who have no idea how to use a scissors. Big big difference. As I said dog grooming is an art. There is a lot more to it then shaving an unmatted dogs coat.

That is the name of the Groomers. They are based in Limerick. Not too sure how far from the city.

Yes but a lot of dog owners are clueless and expect their matted dog to come out like a show dog after grooming. I know exactly what is involved in dog grooming as my daughter is a dog groomer.

I know what exactly is involved too as I show my dogs so groom my own to Show Standard. Plus I have many friends who are qualified professional Groomers. My dogs are also used at grooming seminars. Once again I will say we are not talking about matted dogs. We are talking about Clipper Happy Groomers shaving double coated breeds who should never be shaved unless exceptional circumstances & Groomers who don't know how to use a scissors. Far too many Cowboy Groomers out there so the OP needs to be really careful where they take their dog.

Ballyclough is near Dooradoyle - literally minutes outside the city. There must be another Ballyclough in Mallow.
