Licence plate off colour

My licence plate while only a year old is starting to go off colour/cream. This doesn't look to good against the black car.

    Any recommendations ?

Should I look at getting metals petals or just get the same plastic plates I have now and keep replacing them every year?

    Must be faulty.

On my car reg plate is 4.5 years old and looks like new.
On the other one it's probably since new which is 11 years now, and still looks reasonably good.

If you purchased the plate, go back to the shop you bought it off.

After a year's worth of driving/being out in the elements and for such a small item is it really worth the hassle?

If the shop is not far, it's a very simple warranty claim.

Better to ask them for new one for free, then pay 20 quid for a set of new ones.

Obviously provided the shop is close by.

Ah, some cheaper variants of the perspex plates can yellow very quickly. I'd say once the plate is still legible any parts place would run you if you looked for an exchange a year later.

If you bought the car from a main dealer they'd probably swap the plates for you for free if you ask.

I know I've said it before but plates have really came full circle. I remember in the mid noughties everyone was looking to switch from pressed metal plates to the newer, cleaner looking perspex ones. Now we all dislike perspex and want to go back to pressed metal.

Whatever you do, get a pair of plates, nothing annoys me more than mismatching plates on a car....

Go for a nice set of pressed metal plates. I get mine made up in the Merlin (Nissan) garage in Bray. They are properly made / spaced and will last for years without fading. Just dont use a brush or rough sponge when cleaning them - this will wear away the black paint on the numbers / letters on the plate (over time).

I fitted a set to my car over 3 years ago and they still look as new.

If you go back to the dealer then chances are they're gonna put the same type of reg back on the car so your prob better off going somewhere recommended so you'll know you won't be replacing them again next year.
