Car radio problem?

Hi, the radio in my 2004 Transit seems to have a problem. Reception is perfect on all channels when parked up, with or without the engine running. However, as soon as I start driving, I get intermittent interference on all channels, with partially clear reception only now and again. This is only a recent problem, it's been fine for years. Any ideas?

Considering the age of the radio there is a chance that the aerial is faulty. If the model no. of radio is Ford 6000 then most likely the tuner module is faulty and would need to be replaced.

But how would that explain it working fine when parked, with or without the engine running?

This model is a very basic unit but in its favour it is extremely reliable. I would guess that you have an aerial problem ...

Ok, I might replace the aerial. Having said that, when I'm parked up, I can grab the aerial and bend it all over the place, with no apparent effect on good reception....

With its own aerial tune radio to a station you are not happy with the quality of the sound.
Unplug aerial and in its place hold a piece of wire into the aerial socket...your body plus the piece of wire will act as an aerial.
If the reception improves then it stands to reason that the aerial on roof of car is faulty and needs to be replaced

Doh! I must have accidentally hit the AF button sometime. Problem solved. Except for the embarrassment....
