WiFi connected but no internet access

Service provider is Three. Have mobile broadband. Problem started about a month ago with only sporadic Internet access. Got onto three who advised me to upgrade router but since I got it I have no internet access whatsoever and three can't help me further.

When I hover the mouse over the connection it says signal excellent, radio type 802.11n whatever that means but above that window says no internet access. Can't get on the Internet on my phone either even though I'm connected to WiFi.

Basically I am wondering if there is an issue with my laptop and phone or is this more likely to be a coverage issue. In order to get a free upgraded router I had to renew my contract for a further 18 months and I still have a few days cooling off period left if this problem isn't fixed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like an issue with the router as it's not likely that both laptop and phone would stop working at same time. What you could do to see if its the router itself or the coverage/sim is take the sim out of the router and put it in your phone and turn on the hotspot on your phone. If you can get internet access then it's not a coverage issue.

I would suspect its the router myself. Maybe try a factory reset of the router also.

Many thanks. Will try that and see how I get on.

Unfortunately that didn't work so I take it the problem is with the router.

Do I take it that if I can connect to the network but not the Internet then it's not a coverage issue? I'm baffled because the problem started with the old router and wasn't resolved with the new router. If three can't sort this out then who else can as in at the end my my tether!

You would be able to connect to the network with no sim in the router. Being "connected" just means your phone/laptop is able to talk to the router beside you. The no internet access in this case means the router is not able to connect to three or if it is is unable to get internet access.

The sim/coverage/account is the issue here. Bring the router to a three store and ask for a replacement sim. If they are nice enough they will allow you test the router there before you go.

Another test you could do if you have another three sim is put it in the router and try connect to it then. if it connects its 100% the sim/account is the issue and not the router itself.

OK it's clearer now. I will get to a three store today.

Many thanks for all your help much appreciated.
