Heres some specific details I managed to dig out : http://www.irishferries.com/ie-en/specials-from-Ireland-to-France/free-trip-to-britain/
    Terms & Conditions

Complete a return motorist trip to France between June 1st 2017 and August 31st 2017 on either Oscar Wilde from Rosslare or Epsilon from Dublin.
The Free Trip to Britain is strictly subject to availability, is not transferable and there is no cash alternative.
The Free Trip is valid for travel on our Cruise Ferry services from Dublin to Holyhead or Rosslare to Pembroke for a vehicle and 2 adults on off peak dates.
Supplements apply for any changes to this basic offer, such as additional passengers, travel on peak dates or on DublinSwift etc. Details of supplements and peak travel exclusions are set out below.
One of the adults travelling on the Free Trip to Britain must have travelled on the original booking to France. Proof of identity will be requested at check-in.
The same vehicle must be used for travel to Britain as was used in travel to France.
The Free Trip cannot be claimed until the trip to France has been completed.
The offer only applies to residents of Ireland.
The offer does not apply to discounted trips to France including those paid for in full or part with Tesco vouchers.
    Insurance is not included.
The offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other special offers and the usual terms & conditions apply.
All requests must be received at least 5 working days in advance of the travel date.
    Supplements and Peak Travel Exclusions:

Supplements apply for additional passengers, caravans or trailers and upgrades to Club Class. Additional passengers would be charged at €35 per adult each way and €18 per child each way. The supplement for upgrading to Swift sailings is €60 return and is subject to availability. All other supplements are charged the prevailing retail rate.

The Free Trip to Britain can be taken on off-peak dates between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018. There is a €120 return supplement for travel on peak dates: June, July & August, 17 December – 4 January 2018, Easter 13 - 24 April 2017, mid-term 27 October – 6 November 2017, Special event dates or sporting occasions of high demand such as the Rugby Six Nations 2018 and Cheltenham Races March 2018. All dates are subject to change.

    Nice one.

We just got back from a ferry crossing from the 04/06 - 14/06 to France... so we qualify.

    Yippee.

I think the OP may be referring to the fact that the offer ran in 2016 as well, and you may qualify for a free UK trip in 2017, if you travelled to France in 2016. Details are here: http://www.irishferries.com/uk-en/special-offer-pages/free-trip-to-britain-2016/

We went in 2016.. had already booked and paid for a ferry to the UK this year when a mate told me about the offer.

Rang Irish Ferries and they refunded me most of the money for the booking I made.

Also works with 2017 trips to France.

    Em.. okay..

What I'm saying, don't just buy because of a free trip. Look at value first.

they've been doing this for years, but last year they said it had ended, I guess they've changed their minds.

The free trip only covers car+driver - you have to pay for any extra passengers and there's a supplement for peak periods (the school hols basically). It's still a pretty good offer if you think you'll use the trip to Britain.

No worries. I only heard of it by chance encounter.

OP is currently sunning his ass on the South Coast of England in 25c heat :-)

    Thanks Irish Ferries.

I used mine from 2015 for a one way trip for a car I had just bought in the UK so exceptions are made on the car used for the UK trip, how often I dont know though.
