Any fans of Buffy here? Just recently got the DVD box set as a birthday present so might rewatch soon. Also catching up with the season 10 comics.

Thread title updated to include Angel. Hard to discuss Buffy without Angel!

Loved Buffy and crazy to think it's 20 years old now.

Also crazy to think that, so far, it has escaped the reboot craze. Long may that last!

Considering it was a reboot itself ;)

I did become more of a fan of Angel which I felt was a better series at the end.

Ah it was a very soft reboot though; most of the events of the movie remained canon!

Yeah, I ended up a bigger fan of Angel too. It was a more focused show and didn't pull its punches. A pity it got cancelled when it did!

Buffy had most of the better episodes, but Angel was the better show overall imo. Wesley is one of my favourite TV characters ever. His journey throughout Angel and how his character evolved was truly something special and acted to absolute perfection. I forgive all the flaws of Season 4 mostly due to Alexis Denisof's performance throughout it, and then his role through Season 5 was just amazing (with special mention of course to Amy Acker who brought a whole new dynamic and energy to the show, and her role in Season 5 was equally great).

As for Buffy, it had more ups and downs but when it was on form it was amazing. Some of the best TV episodes ever are contained within, and the characters in general are so great that it still carries you through the rough patches.

Excellent summation Penn. I'll never be able to accept Acker or Denisof in any romantic role with any other actors. They were pitch perfect in Angel, right down to the last moment. Wesley's journey was played to perfection; he was really a shining light through the series. Season 4 had so much dodge to it but a fair bit of good too. A lot of people didn't like season 5 but I thought, on the whole, it was superb. A really brave change up that was totally out of left field.

Season 4 of Buffy was also a ropey one for me. I never jived with the whole Initiative storyline and I was never a Riley fan (though I grew to like him more with each rewatch). I have to say, people again didn't seem to love the final season but I thought it was a real return to form. Nathan Fillion was a fantastic villion (ba-dum-pssh) as were the Ubervamps.

Yeah Season 4 of Buffy was probably the roughest bit from both shows. It had some great episodes and moments, and brought Spike, Anya and Tara into the Scooby gang (whereas Spike and Anya were outsiders before). And Hush, Who Are You and Restless were all fantastic episodes. But the whole thing just felt flat. The Initiative was a good idea but poorly executed, and Adam was the weakest Big Bad in the show, not given enough time to properly develop due to how late he came into it.

Season 6 gets blasted a lot too for being too dark and morbid, but bar a few dud episodes (like most seasons to be fair), I thought it was great. And Season 7 was a great final season. Some genuinely amazing writing, performances and stories. Conversations With Dead People, considering it was written and filmed in a rush because they were so pressed for time, is an incredible episode. And Nathan Fillion really brought something to the villainy that The First couldn't and balanced it out perfectly for the last few episodes.

Love Buffy!!!!!!!  I love how every seasons going, each season final is one unique symbol for buffy, like the 1st is her destiny enemy as a slayer, the 2nd is her love, the 3rd is about graduation and grow up..
It was a nerd friend recommend this show for me and I just fell in love with it. I love how Joss write about all these great female characters, and I am still catching up Angel :)

Any episode of Buffy/Angel with Spike talking to himself and making fun of everyone was always great.
Must give them a rewatch at some point

Retracing this. IMDb trivia says Whedon considers many elements from his original script (later adapted to a comic) as canon but that the film is not, as it was changed so much by the director from his original vision.

I'm watching the film now. It's so awful!
