Local Authority Housing on Medical Grounds

    Hey guys,

I figured this would be the best place to post this question.

I am applying to Local Authority Housing on Medical Grounds, I am aware that I need to get onto the waiting list before I can apply on Medical Grounds but I am wondering..

Have any of you applied on Medical Grounds before?
What did you include in your application?
Did you include a long personal letter?

I am including a letter from my OT and hopefully one from my GP.

I haven't seen my consultant in a long time so I don't think it will be possible to have a letter written up from her.

Any info would be hugely helpful!

I included a letter from my consultant and OT. They sent a medical assessor to my home then and it was their report that put me on the medical priority list. The more info the better!

Do you think a letter from my GP would be okay as she is my primary care person, she takes care of all of my medications, etc.

The LAH sent an assessor out? That would be great, they would see how bad my situation actually is!

Personally i think a consultant's letter would hold more weight. If you are still linked in with the hospital, they should be able to write you one. Even just a general letter discussing your condition and why it means you need local authority housing.

Awesome. I am linked in with the hospital and have been in touch with my consultants secretary lately but I'm still waiting on an appointment to see the consultant again so that could take a while. I may not send off the letters until I know that I'll see the consultant soon. I'm also meeting a pain management specialist next week, so that could possibly help if I got a letter from him?

Do- the more support documents you have, the better.

You are doing all the right things- just get any support services or medical services to write letters of support and that should get the assessor out. It is really them who casts the deciding vote. Good luck!

Like a support group, therapist or if you are linking in with an organisation or society associated with your illness.

Hey! So I had a chat with a lady at IWA, she reckons that my GPs letter holds more weight than my consultant. I got my OT letter today, she wrote quite a lot in it, thankfully.

I went to drop my form in the other day and the girl said no straight out. She said because I have a bedroom, I'm not eligible to be on the housing list. I was so sad, so I called the DCC and was chatting to a lovely man who explained that once I apply, without having my medical letters, they may say no but once I drop them in, a social worker will assess them.

He didn't mention anyone coming out to assess me in my home, though?
