Spent most of the day power washing bits and pieces. Anyway had ear muff protectors on. Went to clean them after and a bloody Ear Wig insect came out from behind the inner sponge. Now I took them off where i washed them so he must have been in there all day long. Won't be leaving them in the tractor again over night.
Could if have layed eggs or anything?

The whole thing about ear wigs laying Eggs in people's ears is an urban (or rural) myth

Literally my biggest phobia & nightmare rolled into one!!! I hate hate hate earwigs and had nightmares for months as a child when my sister told me they crawl into your ears while you sleep and lay eggs there which eat your brain when they hatch...

Poor Patsy, is he best to sleep with his ear pointed down to pillow so they might fall out?

Hate the feckers. Wouldn't mind but I always blow into them before using them.

If they work their pincers on you , you'll know it.

Of all the insects the earwig is the one best adapted to crawling in the ear.
If you get a fly in your ear the buzzing would alert you to his presence and the wings beating as he panics are very annoying, but the earwig takes his time and crawls very slowly, you would not know he was there.
Did you ever disturb a nest of them and see them coming out the entrance, one after another.

I sell earmuffs and i have done lots of courses om hearing protection. I wouldn't recommend anyone wearing radio earmuffs while working. Too many negatives. Too much noise introduced into the ear.

Its always hard to get someones attention when theyre wearing the radio ones .
Seems as you're in the trade would you have any tips on good makes ?
We had to buy a few that clip onto the hard hats a while back and they are great , make the hard hat more comfortable on the head and you should always have the muffs ready then because they will spend the day on your head

How did you get the night Patsy ?

I'd find it hard to work without them, as I listen to a lot of stuff. What issues have been found?

Funny you should say that Cathal because when I saw them on sale, instinctively that was the first thing that came into my head,on one hand ear muffs decrease sound but surely the volume of the radio would not be good for your hearing....so I didn't buy them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Muckit

The clue is in the name. They are designed to muffle the sound, not get rid of it completely. Why? Because hearing is one of our senses - helps us sense danger. You wouldn't go using a chainsaw with a blindfold on. For the same reason, l wouldn't recommend wearing a pair of radio earmuffs.

Just wondering if anyone has radio earmuffs? I bought a pair a few weeks ago and was planning on using them in one of the older tractors. I tried them out a few times and the only time they never work is in the tractor. Is this something to do with signal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,937 ✭✭✭SmartinMartin

Cute, they are. Days or even weeks they'll wait, and just when you've forgotten about them, just when you think it's safe to go asleep again, that's when they hatch.

I don't envy you. Get a big hammer.

I bet you anything it could be the L.E.D lights on the tractor.
Well that's assuming you have L.E.D lights on the tractor.:p

they can be very prone to interference at times, mine can be terrible in certain situations.

I actually switched all the bulbs for LEDs and put 4 LED work lights on it a few months ago😂

A relation had a problem with the radio reception in the tractor when he put LED lights on.
Seemingly the radio picks up the frequency from the LEDs.
Not sure how he solved it?

Your not 100% sure your getting the correct sound noise reduction with ear plugs if you wear them correctly they are brilliant if you don't they are good for keeping your ears clean

Sorry for the late reply busy week. The best sellers hands down is the Peltor optima ll ( head band) you can get them as helmet mountable or if you prefer neck bands ear muffs also. you don't want to get an earmuffs the blocks out everything as there are noise you need to hear (trucks reversing). My view on radio earmuffs is the person is completely tuned out to the world around which is not good. Have you every been in the car for a long drive by yourself and you would have had the radio on. You hop into the car the next day day and your nearly deafened by the radio. Yet the previous day the volume of the radio seemed fine when you were driving. The same is true for radio earmuffs the are there to reduce noise and not introduce noise.

If the bangs sound loud, you're not wearing them correctly, if the bangs don't sound loud, you are ;)

How do patsy they are good for rock breaking stuff like that. Possibly kill too much of what you need to hear for general tractor work etc

When you try them, you'd be amazed how good they are. Really comfortable too. I wouldn't worry about blocking out too much noise. A certain amount will always get through
