Neither :P tbh I think they are both similar enough really. 698 might attract a few more due to the tiny amount of extra horsepower.

the guy says the 690 is turbo but read on here that the 690 (factory fitted) was never turboed

690T is turbo charged. Might be one of those. Or just retro fitted on the 690.

690T were not a factory job. 690 used the 4.248 Perkins engine ...bombproof. 698 used the 4.318 Perkins engine, these were troublesome. The 698T used the Perkins 4.236T engine. These were the best of them.

Never had but seemly the 699 was a bomb proof tractor and one of the best massey made along with the 390 and the 399

699 and early 399 had 6.354 Perkins engine, great tractors but could be a little hard to start. Later 399 had Perkins 1000 series phaser engines. These were good...

And the 698T has the same engine as 390T and 398 also consider a reliable Engine. The 698 has a much more troublesome engine and be especially weary of aftermarket turbos on standard 698’s.

Have a 698 here, bought new in 1986. Never ever had one problem with the engine.

The Cab and balancing the brakes are the 2 big issues

Well 600 series cabs were built out of rust :D

But, sure there are plenty of 698 engines which haven't given trouble, but a lot more did compared to either 690's or 698T's.

But no issue hear with balancing the brakes in ours :P

Had a massey mechanic in our place once, and he failed to balance the brakes. One would always lock up and the other freewheel.

But did you have a good one? Did they remove the axles as it sounds like you need new discs and or actuators.

Define good enough. 3000 - 8000 depending on what you call good enough.

I suspect "good enough" is about 5000ish

good cab, tinwork, engine and tyres, main massey dealer was only allowing 3500 trade in for 2003 massey, he must not have a high opinion on them

3500 sounds like a good price from a dealer, they generally don't want to bother with 30 year old tractors. And the dealer won't be selling it on at 3500.

Pity sell it cnt beat the old Massey's you'd always find something to fix them round the farm to get you outa ahold what model are you interested in getting??

probably right but when the newish massey is broke down the 690t be still going and with the profit they make out of these tractors couldnt they offer more to clinch the sale

If you really think the 690T will be still going when the new one is broke why are you trading?

If you really want to get the most you can for it sell it privately. But there is no guarantee of a quick sale either.

And I wouldn't be so sure the profit is that good on the sale of a second hand tractor with another second hand tractor traded in against it.They will need to sell the 690T in a straight deal to make it worthwhile and the 600 series are over 30 years old and not in great demand, so that could take a while.
