Anybody know if there is another diesel filter/stariner other than the main one? Power is dropping occasionally and main filter is just after a change..

I would not panic just yet if is just after being changed ,it might clear it self after a few days work .If it does not ,It might be similar to 390 ,It has been some time now but as far as i remember on the 390 ,there is a gauze filter in the diesel lift pump ,just rip the the ring of bolts on the lift pump and clean the filter if similar .On the 390 there is also a filter gauze in the diesel pump, any massey garage man would show you where it is

Not sure if you've had tractor from new or not, but if not maybe previous owner put an in line filter on diesel line and it might be out of view inside bonnet? I have one fitted on that same tractor as main filter was having to be changed too often.

    Is it these bolts?

Have Mf 365 same lift pump as the picture you added. No need to undo bolts around the side. On very top is a screw\bolt undo this will give you access to filter.

Is there one in the diesel tank? I have a 35 and Ford 4000, both have small dirt filters in the tank. They need to be cleaned now and again., If you let the diesel go low, the dirt gets sucked in slows fuel supply.

This is wrecking my head, replaced fuel lift pump, changed whole fuel sender unit, cleaned out the tank. Can.t get to the bottom of it.. in fact it seems to be getting worse.. stops randomly now and starts again after a few turns.. checked all the pipes too.. last call for ideas?
Next step is to pipe diesel from a can strapped to the bonnet through a new inline filter directly to injector pump and see will that resolve it..

Put a pint of engine oil into diesel .it wil help free out vanes in injector pump

I'd a similar problem on a 4255 which had big hours. Camshaft was wore so wasn't tripping the lift pump. Take off the lift pump and stick your finger in and hopefully you won't feel a gouge

    Where exactly is that located?

I even had a mechanic look at it who worked for massey and i asked him was there a injector pump gauze and he said no..

There is a gauze in the 390 injecter pump anyway ,i cleaned my one ,all i did was rip stud in side of pump facing you and it came out and half blocked as well ,it is smaller then your small finger!!!

The bottom stud is used to bleed it, no filter in that housing because i took it off.. any of the other studs?

Delphi DP200 series pump on these, doesn’t have a gauze filter on the inlet side like the older Lucas CAV pumps others mentioned here. Fuel shut off solenoid could be faulty also, may have a voltage drop trying to hold it open and spring force is trying to shut it off if you have a poor connection to the stop solenoid. Whip it out and have a look at it or supply a separate fused 12v supply into it and see if any better. Can take out the plunger from the stop solenoid, put back in and test but you’ll have to stall engine in a high gear to stop it as you’ll no longer have shut off function with plunger removed from the solenoid.
Other than this, pump is failing internally and will have to be sent away to get checked. Torque control piston in the top cover is a bit of a notorious problem for sticking on these you lose mid range power and torque.

I am having similar problems with a 390, I’m cleaning out the filter/gauze in the fuel lift pump every 2 to 3 weeks to stop it cutting out on me.

It’s not ideal but it will tie me over till I get it left into the garage to get the whole lot blown out.

There does be like a gel build up of dirt in it that blocks the gauze.

Full drain of the tank, filter change, blow out the lines, and get fresh diesel! had this with a Ford 4000 a few weeks ago, dirt accumulated in the tank,, thak fllter had a hole in it,, and dirt blocked the tank to filter feed pipe. the filter was manky as well and had water in it.
Cleared this, and the pipes, working grand now.

The 4255 has a plastic tank so dirt should not be an issue. I am not sure if you have replace the rubber pipe from the tank to the injector pump sometimes they have become porous. A sure sign is if this issue only happen when the tank is nearly empty. You could try replacing the lift pump with an electric/electronic one.

Lift pump is only on 2months, said i would check anyways.. exact same issue, 1/2in thick layer of a jelly type liquid..
Tank was cleaned out so maybe the pipe Bass is referring to is breaking down causing this? I will change that pipe and report back!
The main diesel tank is plastic with a filter and stored out of sunlight.. so i confident that should not be the issue.. i had a problem when low sulfur diesel was 1st introduced as i stored it in a steel tank.. was blocking filters weekly..
    Thanks for the replies!!
