Hi I'm looking at picking up a 1988 e30 touring in uk. Car looks good. Have had an extensive conversation with the owner. It sounds good. It's a 320i but the engine has been replaced by a 2.5 at some stages.
All the normal problem areas appear to be ok.
Anyone have any experience of these cars ?

Hey,ive had a few e30's.they are brilliant cars.the 2.5 is the one to go for although not without there faults.they can be a tapping motor but usually a tune up will sort most of that.i pressure ye know all the trouble spots like under the front windscreen, along boot seal over the reg plate and in the boot pockets.also if it's a sun roof model have a good check around the inner roof and we're the drain pipes for the sun roof run down.ye will sometimes get a crunching when you push up on the headlining when there's rust behind it. Replacing the sunroof tray is a big job.like all old bmers it will probably need some work on the drive train, they tend to get a bit clunky when guido's get worn,,just make sure it's not the diff clunking.hope this helps.

Thanks for reply. I went to uk last week to pick up an 87 320i saloon. Few bits to do but nothing major.
