Hi, I have two dog's, a 7kg 3 year old and a 3.6kg 5 month old puppy. I'd like to get them on the same food but wondering is the puppy old enough? I'm feeding the puppy Acana Puppy Small Breed which she loves and the adult dog is on Gain, I was thinking on putting them both on Acana Adult Small Breed.

Go for it. I put my puppy on adult food as soon as he had his adult teeth. It was more a matter of the kibble being size appropriate and good quality for my dog, I had found it difficult to get a decent quality puppy kibble within my budget for a large breed, but much easier when looking at adult food.

Acana Adult foods are soo much better than run of the mill puppy foods that i would say yes.... however the puppy small breed, adlt small breed and puppy and junior should all be the same price so maybe move both to one of the puppy foods for a little while longer without any additional € penalty

I put puppies onto adult food at about 4 or 5 months old as I prefer them to grow a little slower. Sometimes they are even younger. I only use puppy food for pregnant bitches in their last few weeks & very young puppies. It is nothing to do with cost.

Arcana is such a good food.
Just out of interest what is the difference between Puppy kibble and Adult kibble (apart from the size of the kibble)

Now, I don't 100% for sure know the answer to your question, but my understanding is that they usually have more calories/protein. Here for example is an adult food vs. a puppy food, Markus Muhle/Black Angus. Same brand, same flavour.

    Puppy version...
Ground dried Black Angus meat (20.2%), ground brown wholegrain rice, ground dried duck meat (9.1%), ground wholegrain corn, ground dried herring (5.6%), ground millet, ground amaranth, fresh green herbs, linseed, dried algae mix, herring oil, cold pressed vegetable oil mix, beet pulp, gelatine, dry peat (2%), dried ground yucca schidigera, fennel seeds, dried blueberries, powdered egg yolk, siliceous earth (1.5%), muscle meat extract from green-lipped mussels (1.5%), green mineral soil (1.5%), sea mollusc protein from green-lipped mussels (1%).

    protein 28.6 %
    fat 12.2 %
    fibre 2.8 %
    ash 6.5 %
    calcium 1.25 %
    phosphorus 1.03 %
    magnesium 0.11 %
    sodium 0.37 %
calories that can be burned 3750.0 kcal/kg

And this is the adult version...
Ground dried Black Angus meat (17.3%), ground brown wholegrain rice, ground dried duck meat (9.7%), ground dried herring (6.6%), ground millet, ground amaranth, fresh green herbs, linseed, algae mix, herring oil, cold pressed vegetable oil mix, beet pulp, gelatine, dry peat (2%), dried ground yucca schidigera, milk thistle seeds, fennel seeds, dried blueberries, powdered egg yolk, siliceous earth (1.5%), muscle meat extract from green-lipped mussels (1.5%), sea mollusc protein from green-lipped mussels (1%), green mineral soil.

    protein 25.2 %
    fat 10.1 %
    fibre 6.0 %
    ash 7.5 %
    calcium 1.35 %
    phosphorus 1.12 %
    magnesium 0.08 %
    sodium 0.39 %
calories that can be burned 3430.0 kcal/kg

But the likes of Acana (adult food specifically) will typically have analytical constituents even higher than the puppy food above, being considered a very good quality brand, so this is where I kind of disregard the importance of "puppy" food. If anyone has any input with regards the difference between puppy food vs. adult food, would love to hear it. :o
