I was buying a item cost €450 with no vat and had left a deposit of €150 cash we're not vat registered I went to pay the balance with a cheque of €300. That was grand til I was told I had to pay vat on the cheque of €69 I've never heard of having to pay vat on a cheque. Is this right or wrong

This isn't a consumer issue; and the VAT was clearly on the product not on the cheque anyway.
