Combo box recommendation?

    Hi,
I've been looking at the possibility of switching from Sky to a Saorview setup for a while now. I had initially been holding off in the hope that some new combo boxes would be released with improved functionality, but I'm now at a stage where I don't use the TV enough to warrant the cost of Sky; most days, it is just used by the kids for watching children's channels.

I do, on the odd occasion, use the Sky+ to record programs if I have family staying with me; on these occasions, I would usually record both RTE and TV3 either simultaneously or in close succession. And therein lies my problem - will it be possible for me to get a Saorview box that will allow me record 2 Irish channels at once, and one that will also have PVR functionality on the sateilite channels? I'm not opposed to having the satelite and saorview on 2 separate interfaces if need be.

I would second the Humax freesat box but I use the Walker wp6500ttr for Saorview, no issues with either.

Sorry to bump this thread but it similar to my question I have being in power city currys and did over the weekend and I have being getting mixed answers to what I am asking. Can you get a set top box that records irish and uk free to air channels? Some of the shops told me yes and others told me it's one or the other?

If you are happy to use two boxes then the Humax Freesat and Freeview receivers will do everything you need.

If you want everything in a single box you can get a linux receiver (for example http://www.freetv.ie/satellite/receivers/linux/). These do require some initial setup but once up and running they are straight forward to use.

Note: For full flexibility with recording you should get a quad tuner (twin satellite tuner and twin terrestrial tuner).

Just out of curiousity, what level of flexibility would a Walker TV (with a Saorview & Satellite tuner) offer? Eg, this one states that it is live pause & record ready https://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-12-WPS32D

while this one says Saorview record ready https://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-13-218873.

I presume these would need a HDD attached, but would they allow recording of 2 channels together, or watch 1 record 1 at the same time?

Which model humax freeview box will work with saorview-2000T? I have the freesat hdr1101s and have to say - it's very impressive.

Usually TVs have 1 terrestrial tuner and one satellite tuner. At worst you will be able to record one saorview channel and watch a satellite channel (or vice versa).

You may be able to watch other channels from the same MUX (terrestrial) or transponder (satellite).

    no series link

mentioned in previous threads saorview crippled the humax and panasonic to prevent series link. has been extremely reliable which more than compensates
