I dont have any spare keys for my car. If it were to be stolen and i failed to produce 2 sets would it go against me?

No, it's not a requirement (and not uncommon for older cars to just have the one key).

I moved your post into a new thread so the other can stay on track.

If you get any grief from the insurance, you just ask them: 'are you saying that I should have notified you when I lost the first key?'

I think we all know the answer.

The cheapest solution is to find a shop that clones keys that have chips in them rather than get a dealer to cut a new key and then program it.

The main advantage of going down the dealer route is that the lost key will be removed from the stored list of trusted keys so in the event that you have any worries about personal security (e.g. ex-boyfriend has the other key) then that is the way to go. Otherwise just get a clone of the existing key.

If it were ever to happen that the insurance company asked you, tell them that you have the spare key but its lost in your house somewhere, its not important and not a requirement for insurance.

For your own peace of mind - just get yourself a copy of your key.

Even if it would not work (and it obviously won't as it'd be just a copy, not programmed against IMMO thing), nobody would notice once car is stolen (you have keys, you have no car to test your keys in).

Plus if you somehow lock your keys in the car at least you have a spare that will physically open the lock. Alarm will sound if it's not coded but you can stop that with the keys you originally locked inside.
