Creative Writing Written Sounds

okay guys, am wondering as to how you would write the sound of material ripping? Have had a look on other creative writing websites and they only have the basics (i.e. rip, tear, shred, etc.) :confused:

Rather than describing the sound, you could consider evoking it by focussing on the impact on the point of view character, e.g.: Captain Small was pulled from his reverie by every sailor's nightmare, the unmistakable sound of sail ripping, the main sheet being sundered top to bottom by the vicious wind.
