Disregarding the fact that no one could be bothered hacking an average joe's computer, what if they did?

How dependent are you on internet security?

What would be the worst thing that could happen to you?

Do you have pictures that you said you deleted?

If they had access to your bank account, would you give a shít?

Have you ordered dodgy stuff off the internet?

Have you said some nasty **** about someone via messenger?

I share some pics with mates of mine privately on FB that a lot of people would find not funny at all but we find very funny. I've also vented about some family or friends to others and they would be proper p*ssed if they found out.

    So AH, What about you??

Id be more worried about the installation of a key logger and getting my banking details or identity info, or putting inappropriate material on the computer for blackmail purposes

Have my browser set to block third party cookies / clear history on exit, as well as an adblocker (ublock origin) and I don't save any of my passwords in it (use that LastPass plugin... which I've been meaning to transfer to XKeyPass!). And I'm running linux. *snorts*

Don't use Google Drive, stopped using Gmail...

And I'm also behind seven proxies. *snorts again*

But I don't think any system is perfect. The easiest thing to hack is still a human. Much like Kevin Mitnick's social engineering approach (but backed up with the technical know-how).

Im not overly concerned about hackers and people stealing my money from bank accounts.

Im in the IT industry but it doesnt bother me.

If your money was stolen by false credit card transactions or withdrawals then the banks simply return the money to you. It has happened to me before when a few thousand was stolen and all it look to resolve was a quick call to the bank, signing a form to declare it wasn't me and a few days later i had the money back.

The main thing that concerns me is my wasted time having to remove the ****ty worm or trojan and which most likely will result in me reformatting everything and spending days reinstalling all my ****.

    Similar to yourself.

I know no one is specifically going to target me for anything on my domestic PC, and as I'm savy about where I'm going and what I'm clicking I know I'm not running a risk.

My card was used once online to buy a few iphones and shoes, had the money back within the week it happened and no real issues.

I've always been conscious in not getting paranoid about data theft, fraud etc. I always find it ironic the data paranoid people I know, are the same people who share their life on social media, down to every meal they are eating.

Worse thing that could happen is my PC being out of action for a few hours and not being able to game </3

But in reality I've all important **** going through numerous redundancy backups, so if my PC did get attacked or targetted, its just a reformat that these days is lightning quick :)

PM me your online banking log-in details and I'll check that it's secure, no charge.

If they managed to log on to my pc they would not see anything. All my files are on a corporate Onedrive.
And if they managed to crack that access then they deserve to see my saucy pictures. Good luck to them.

I'm always worried about the PlayStation Network being hacked and getting my account details. But yeah getting hacked is one of my greatest fears.

I have two working computers, and regularly sync all important data between them - and I use two different cloud sync services on them too for some data. Other less-important data gets backed up regularly. So unless "they" manage to get both computers at the same time, I'm good. I don't care about the computers - they can get fresh OS installations - only about the data.

For most folks, who aren't that "techy", I would advise setting up a free Dropbox account and putting important data on there. (Yes, I know it's trusting another company to hold your data safe in the "cloud", but the alternative is to do it yourself, and most folks don't want to.) Any changes get backed up to the "cloud" in seconds. Depending on the attack, your data may be encrypted and the encrypted versions backed up to Dropbox, but the service saves old versions of files for a month for free accounts, and in perpetuity for paid accounts. So you can "roll back" the encryption to get your data back - after wiping your computer clean.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Keep your data in your head and your money in your mattress and they can hack away all they want.

Nothing other than my music collection I DJ with on my laptop, important to me but no one else in the grand scheme of things really...

I don't do online banking on it, use my phone for that....

I don't have photos or any of that stuff on it, it's all in my Google photos backed up...

Someone has been trying to get into my Amazon account recently but I have 2FA on it...

No money or card on it just incase... :)

Everyone should check https://haveibeenpwned.com regularly. If you are on it, start changing passwords and set up 2 factor.

Keep a clean image of your system and that way you can carry out a full wipe and restore no matter what happens. This is the "nuke it from orbit" option and works well.

Make sure you change the default password for any internet-connected devices, be it your WiFi router or that stupid IoT camera or teddy bear you got for your baby.

If you have any truly valuable soft copies, keep backups regularly in a couple of different, independent locations.

If you rely on online resources, use 2 factor authentication.
