Front wipers stopped working on Peugeot 306 - stuck in a car park

The front wipers on my Peugeot 306 1.4 99 stopped working this morning 5 minutes away from work, I couldn't see a thing in front of me

I'm parked up now but I need to get the car home so I won't be clamped later but the rain doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon.

The back wipers are working, the front ones make a noise like they are attempting to move but can't, I can move them up and down manually.

I'm in Dublin City Centre but I'm assuming it's not the type of thing I can get fixed quickly in a car park, I have AA but as this is not classed as an emergency I'm assuming I can't use them either.

Anyone got any suggestions to get me home this evening?

    Cheers!

They aren't a car I'm familiar with but it sounds like the linkage has separated. Have a look under the dash from one of the footwells and see if you can see the mechanism and put it back together. If you can't see anything try lifting the bonnet and maybe you can see the mechanism there. A word of caution, don't go near the mechanism while it's running as there's a worm and pinion drive in the wiper motor and it will crush your fingers without a hesitation.
Ps no rain here in Wexford...

Get some string and tie to either side and open both windows slightly.

You will be able to work them.

Also get a potato cut in half rub on windscreen it will help water run off.

Also other types of ceramic or nano tech products which will repel the rainwater.

It could be a motor or the arm attached could have snapped which they can do.

Its not the hardest fix but I highly doubt you will do it stuck there.

I'd give the AA a ring, you can't drive the car so it's a valid call-out I would think, no harm in ringing anyway see what they say.

You will need to remove the wipers themselves and the plastic trim between th windscreen and bonnet to see what's going on. I'm guessing the wiper linkage has detached from the motor.

Take extreme care when working with wiper motors and linkages.

Yeah, I just called them and they said they would call out, I just assumed as it wasn't technically an emergency.

I'm hoping it's something that they can fix there and then, but that's probably wishful thinking, I don't care as long as I can just get it home.

If it is a detached linkage they can likely click it back in, but it would be liable to pop out again.

Thanks everyone, the AA got me up and running for now. He said a ball and socket joint had worn, he popped it back in and put cable ties on to get me home.

back in the mid 80's I had a mate in a fiat 127 which was a pile of junk.
We were heading to a disco one night and the wipers broke down. He had to lean out the window and use his right hand to manually use the wiper while driving :D
Good job there was a helluva lot less traffic back then and we had less sense.

Yeah, this is a common issue with wipers alright. The fix is common too.
It may not last though, so chat to a mechanic about getting new linkage.
