What in your opinion is the most comfortable car for bouncing over bog roads at speed. What soaks up the bumps?

    Golf R4?

Some sort of Range Rover maybe? Overfinch, Kahn or similar.

Citroen C5 (provided it has hydropneumatic suspension, which later ones didn't all have)

Land Rover Discovery/Range Rover good too.

They're whales alright but they do have good suspension.

    Agreed on the c5.
Look up the C6, Honda CR-V and Golf comfort line

Subaru Legacy, very comfortable suspension/ride and will handle any bog road anywhere, any time.

No fast car is going to handle bog roads that well when driving fast on them. bog roads are lethal (at least the ones around here are) and i wouldn't drive any car i remotely cared about fast on one.

    Under 25 and from Donegal?

Now were getting somewhere, I had a wrx and it was like it was on rails but way to stiff for what I had in mind, I know nothing about the legacy it might do the job though seems to be a very limited selection out there though.

I'd say something a bit higher but with stiff springs, e.g. A4 all road?

Audi A8 or Lexus LS with air suspension is the job.

Big buses like the A8 or LS don't do bog roads well at speed either as those type cars are too big and wide. Yes they are comfortable couches but they also big barges that don't have the maneuverability of smaller cars.

Would they not be a bit bulky?

Probably the best car is a Mitsubishi Evo, the A8's, Range Rovers are not chuckable in tight bouncy situations. I've an F10 530 and while it's swift it's still a barge on a tight corner hop, took a 1.6 TDI bog standard golf on said road the other day and it just felt a lot tighter. Hence my first suggestion was the R4. 300bhp, cheap tax and all wheel drive and pretty decent mpg considering the power.

You'll have to comprimise. A car that can handle bog roads will have to be a wallowing barge. So you either need to pick comfort or speed, as any fast car will be too hard for bog roads and any comfortable car will be too slow.

Might be selling a Subaru Outback 2.5 if it fits the bill.

Whatever car you get buy Small wheels with nice fat tyre walls. It'll be the single biggest improvement to ride quality.

The Legacy is softly sprung, some might say too softly sprung. From a quick look on DoneDeal there are a countless supply of them but it really depends on what age and budget you plan on. If your looking for an older car then there is any amount of 05-10 models available in 2.0 & 2.5 petrol and 2.0 diesel.

I have to admit my C5 was pretty decent on bog roads. Bumps that would take the sump out of something lower, the C5 would just waft over them. Luxury.

Bog roads are usually straight. Certainly the ones around my part of the country are. Heading through anywhere in the bog of Allen the roads are generally straight.
The road is going through a bog so those who laid the road in the first place had no reason to make the road anything but straight and that makes a Citroen with Hydropneumatic the best choice even with a small engine.

I'm not a big fan of air suspension as it is very expensive to fix and the bags are a service part which generally scraps a car through expense when it is 10 to 15 years old.

A Citroen C4 Cactus is supposed to be very comfortable with a soft suspension. Or you could get an older model Peugeot like a 406 or a 306 as they handle well and have great suspensions too.

I have seen a few on the roads and its much better looking in the metal than a in a pic. I have heard do the seats are not great and I am not a fan of the doors or dash inside. Its a good town car or a car for short journeys. The seats are not great for long journeys do.

Ive seen them twice in the last week, both times I was reminded of the Fiat Multipla.
