Hi there, looking for some advice please.......Ok so I have been on Jobseekers Allowance since March of this year, at the time of starting my claim I took a form to fill out for Disability Allowance as I qualify for this payment on 2 long standing medical conditions, I filled out the form and my doctor done the same and at this minute I am still waiting on the decision to be made.

Yesterday I got from the DSP a letter about my JA claim and the conditions that I must meet to qualify for that payment, I must be free to take up full time work and I must be making real effort to find suitable work, and they have enclosed a form that I need to fill out stating the details of any jobs that I have recently applied for.

At the moment I am currently attending my doctor for a suspected torn rotator cuff, have been for x rays, am currently awaiting a date for a mri scan and am taking anti inflammatory tablets and I have to see a physiotherapist this Friday, I have very little range of motion in my shoulder, am in pain with it but it is kinda manageable but this IS stopping me from working, this shoulder condition is not one of the 2 DA qualifying condition that I mentioned earlier but as well as.

So I would really appreciate an answer to this, Should I be on a different payment at this time? and if so which one please, thanks for any help anybody can give me.......Tried ringing Bishops Square but never get an answer.

You do not meet the requirement for jobseekers of being fit to work. Go into your GP and ask to apply for illness benefit. You'll need a cert from the GP each week.

You can be on JSA as an interim payment while waiting to hear back on DA. Ring or pop into your local SW office and explain your situation to them and how you're waiting to hear back on your DA and they'll probably excuse the forms for you.

Thanks guys for the replies, little update for you, I went to the doctor and got the letter stating I'm not currently fit for work due to the shoulder but the guy in the dole office said, he will leave me on JA and make a note on my file that I am currently awaiting a decision on my DA claim, according to him, the dole office should basically leave me alone to recover and wait for the DA claim to be made.
